Would You Be Interested In Watching ‘Zombieland’ The TV Series?

Zombieland

Did you know that ultra-popular zombie movie Zombieland was originally created as a television series that was picked up by CBS? Well, it was indeed, and it’s not completely out of the question that some day in the future it will try once again to find a home on your TV set.

Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick spoke to MTV recently and explained how things had come to be. In 2005, they crafted the story as a pilot episode and sold it to CBS, but it was eventually decided that it just wouldn’t work at a series…as you might imagine. Clearly, if this was ever going to happen, it would have to be on HBO or Showtime — maybe FX at the very minimum, but that wouldn’t be preferable.

Because Zombieland was such a huge hit, the writing duo are already well into writing a sequel to it. They’ve also proven themselves a talented team, and have been hired to write a sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and also the adaptation of popular comic Deadpool, which will star Ryan Reynolds.

‘Zombieland’ Writers Also Taking On ‘G.I. Joe’ Sequel

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

The writing duo for popular Summer horror comedy Zombieland, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, are apparently the men of the moment. Just this past Tuesday, it was confirmed that the pair would be taking on the writing duties for the Ryan Reynolds Deadpool adaptation, which seems like a perfect match. Now comes word via an IESB scoop that Reese and Wernick will also be taking on the sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

If this news pans out, the hiring is definitely not that match made in heaven for the writers like Deadpool is. G.I. Joe won a lot of people over who were expecting it to be unwatchable, but it also remained unwatchable to many others. In any scenario, it is a much cheesier and action-heavy project than Zombieland was or Deadpool is likely to be. This leads one to believe that it could be a “paycheck” job for these gentleman, which is fair and deserved. One thing is for sure, though: if they can add a little Zombieland good-ness to G.I. Joe, it might just take a big step up on the entertainment levels.

Deadpool

As one of the more popular anti-heroes of the comic book world, the announcement of a movie based on the Wade Wilson himself, Deadpool, was music to the ears of fans.

With promises of a faithful adaptation, the perfect-fitting Ryan Reynolds reprising his role from X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and the assurance that the severe mishandling of the character in Wolverine would be wiped clean, how could anyone not be excited? To add to all of this, a rumor that was first reported by CHUD in early December has now been confirmed by the trades: Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick have been hired on to pen the Deadpool script.

This is fantastic news to throw onto the pre-existing pile of positive ingredients that have been applied to the project. Zombieland was praised for its humor and well-placed sarcasm, which is what Wade Wilson is really all about. Nail his Merc with the Mouth persona and you nail the character while setting yourself up for a successful film.

Gary Ross To Write ‘Venom’; Sam Raimi Hopes To Begin Filming ‘Spider-Man 4’ By March

Venom

The whispers around town indicate that Spider-Man 4 writer Gary Ross is currently in discussions with Sony to write, and maybe even direct their planned spin-off movie, Venom. The movie has already had multiple drafts written, including one from Zombieland writing team Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

Ross plans to finish up his scrip for Spidey 4 and then move right into the Venom project. All indications so far is that all things we’ve seen from the character will be thrown away, and that this movie will start all over again — including re-casting the role once filled by Topher Grace in the forgettable Spider-Man 3.

Movie Review: Zombieland

Zombieland Movie PosterZombieland
Directed by Ruben Fleischer
Starring Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin
Rated R
Release date: October 2, 2009

I love horror movies and I also love comedies, so blend the two genres and you immediately have my interest, even if the final product is shockingly subpar. Just about every subgenre of horror, from mad scientist movies (Re-Animator) to werewolf movies (An American Werewolf in London) to even vampire movies (The Lost Boys), has seen their decaying shelf lives increased thanks to a lightning bolt to the heart in the form of some much-needed humor. When the horror movie monsters of old have outlived their usefulness, what better to keep them fresh than to point out how patently absurd they actually are? But when it comes to horror movie monsters being played for laughs the zombie always comes out on top. Even in George Romero’s classic Dead series, the zombies — while never less of a threat — are often regarded with a sense of humor because they’re creatures without any real personality and anything resembling a brain who act primarily out of instinct, kind of like petulant toddlers. As a result, they do goofy things like get caught on escalators, play with guns, and stand idly by while the living throw cream pies in their faces. Zombies are fun, but still scary. After all, you may find their dead-eyed antics amusing, but would you want to be one of them? I doubt it.

However, killing zombies still sounds like a lot of fun. If you have an IQ greater than your shoe size then you have the advantage over the walking dead. How many of us, after devouring every zombie flick we can get our hands on (even the shittier ones), have dug deep into the bowels of our horror-soaked imaginations and wondered how we would act in the face of a global zombie apocalypse?

SDCC 09: ‘Zombieland’ Has Fast Zombies And Woody Harrelson
space
Tom Cheredar   |

Zombieland is the kind of undead flick that does all of the things you’d talk about doing to retaliate against a zombie horde if you were stuck inside the movie’s reality. You’d probably tell your friends or whoever was within earshot that you’d be running over zombies, cracking their skulls with an aluminum little league bat while sporting wired mesh that human teeth couldn’t penetrate. And you’d probably do this because that’s the proper defense mechanism for being terrified out of your frakin’ mind.

I don’t know that I’ll be scared out of my mind upon viewing this film. Yet, I trust that I’ll be immensely entertained solely based on the clips Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer presented during the Sony Pictures panel at the San Diego Comic-Con.

Check out the stellar Zombieland trailer and a 5-minute video of the Comic-Con panel, both listed below…

Fleischer was joined on the panel by the movie’s cast, which includes Jesse Eisenberg (Adventureland), Emma Stone (Superbad) and Woody Harrelson, whose sheer personality arguably makes this film more interesting. Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine) also stars in the film.

Comic Con Movie Images: ‘Iron Man 2,’ ‘Alice In Wonderland,’ ‘Prince Of Persia’ & More!

Wonderland

Just yesterday, we got our first look at Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow in Jon Favreau‘s Iron Man 2. The images came from this weeks issue of Entertainment Weekly, which is a preview to Comic Con special. The issue has now been officially released and as it turns out, there were many more great images inside!

To go with the pictures of Black Widow, a few more tiny peeks at Iron Man 2 were offered. Among them is a look a Don Cheadle — who is stepping in for Terrence Howard as James Rhodes — sitting in front of Sam Rockwell, who will be playing Tony Stark rival Justin Hammer. There’s also a couple of new images of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark: One is of him taking part in some seemingly highly-competitive competition of sorts; the other shows him speaking to new CEO of Stark Industries: Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow).

It doesn’t end there, either. A bunch of other big movies with previews featured in the issue as well, including Tim Burton‘s Alice in Wonderland, Matthew Vaughn‘s Kick-Ass, Mike Newell‘s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Shane Acker‘s 9, Roland Emmerich‘s 2012, Ruben Fleischer‘s Zombieland, and Chan-Wook Park‘s Thirst.

Click over to check out all of these images, and head over to EW for even more.

Must Watch Movie Trailer: ‘Zombieland’

Zombieland

The zombie genre is one of the most over-done in movies today, but fortunately for us, when executed properly, zombie movies can be a great time. Movies like Shaun of the Dead and Slither have taken the general concept of mass human infection, and offered up new and funny, as well as unique ways to present them. Following in these footsteps, a new flick called Zombieland has been catching people’s attention lately, and today we get our first look at the trailer.

The movie stars Woody Harrelson as Tallahassee and Jesse Eisenberg as Columbus. Tallahassee is the guy who takes out zombies with ease…almost like it’s just a hobby and Columbus is the guy who’s really good at running away. Also in the movie is Emma Stone as Witchita; Abigail Breslin as Little Rock; and even Bill Murray apparently as a zombie.

Aside from hearing the title a few times (it’s not one you forget) and a couple of casting announcements, this is the first time that I’m seeing anything from this movie, and it looks like a wild ride. I made it a point to mention Slither and Shaun of the Dead above, because this trailer gives me that same kind of “laughing while terrified” vibe. Its true challenge will be proving that it’s as good as those movies!

Click on over to see the trailer, or head to Apple for the HD option.
