Year of the Snake

If you enjoy watching extremely strange and unique web series, I’m happy to say that you are in for it today with Year of the Snake. What exactly “it” is, I cannot really say for sure. But whatever the hell it is, you’re definitely in for it!

The web series comes from director Nic Collins of Twin Visuals, who can explain it all much better than I. He calls it a “superhero, comedy, sci-fi, punk rock, genre-bending, web series,” which he describes as “Batman (1966) meets [Grant] Morrison’s Animal Man with some of [Jim] Starlin’s Silver Surfer” mixed with “a little Deadpool and The Venture Bros.” to top it all off. See? Madness!

You can read more about Year of the Snake and watch a trailer and the full series below.

NYCC 2015 Screen Junkies panel

Screen Junkies has over 4.7 million subscribers on YouTube and they’re… just like us: regular guys who love movies, and love even more to sit around talking about them, complaining and mocking them as well. I had the opportunity watch their panel appearance at New York Comic-Con on Friday.

The biggest view-getters from their channel is the Honest Trailers feature, which debut on Tuesdays, and Movie Fights on Fridays. Honest Trailers consists of hilarious 4-6 minute videos where they mock the ins and outs of popular movies with phony trailers that may tell too much truth. Movie Fights features arguments based on random film questions like Indy/Han, DC/Marvel, etc.

NYCC 2015: Con Man panel

Alan Tudyk, Nathan Fillion, Seth Green, and Felicia Day, the stars of Con Man, made an appearance at a panel on Friday at New York Comic-Con to talk about the new web series.

Called an event 13 years in the making, Alan Tudyk (Firefly, I Robot) and Nathan Fillion (Castle, Firefly) developed the idea for Con Man in Tudyk’s kitchen. Later, we’d find during the panel that most of the ideas, sans two, were Tudyk’s. Their ideas were to have a show about actors and conventions, and the fans that worship them. The problem: no producers wanted it. Tudyk relayed later that many wanted to mock the fans and portray cosplayers as weirdos instead of devoted lovers of the art. Together they took to Indiegogo and through their devoted fans raised $3.2 million through 46,000 fan donations and did the show as a web series.

Real Fake History The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead has taken audiences by storm. Since debuting in 2010, the AMC series based the graphic novels by Robert Kirkman found a core viewership amongst horror fans seeking more realistic and scary shows on TV. But along with it’s great character like Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Rick (Andrew Lincoln) comes questions. Ever wonder how EVERYONE in a Zombie Apocalypse is a natural sharpshooter, zipping headshots like anyone can grab a gun and be Army-material? Real Fake History does. Today Machinima’s weekly mockumentary series examines a crucial battle from AMC’s wildly successful show, The Walking Dead, with the assault on the prison by the Governor and his Woodbury army.

Real Fake History The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Rises is one of those movies that when it came out, felt epic. The performances, the music, Bane shattering Batman’s back… it was so good, you kinda ignored the gaping plot holes. Then you watched it again and, OH, there they are. These plot holes come up big in Machinima’s Real Fake History, detailing the battle of Gotham City from Christopher Nolan’s concluding part to his Batman trilogy.

Real Fake History The Battle Of Hong Kong

Today on Machinima’s Real Fake History, we take a deeper look into the Battle of Hong Kong Bay from Guillermo Del Toro’s 2013 sci-fi action movie, Pacific Rim. One of the more purely fun movies to come out in a long time, the plot revolved around gigantic monsters (Kaiju) coming out of a hole at the bottom of deep Pacific trenches, and wreaking havoc on cities on our west coast, as well as Asian cities. To stop them, we build gigantic human controlled robots to fight the monsters off. It’s hard not to love a movie where a robot swings a ocean liner like a baseball bat into the head of a monster!

Watch the Real Fake History video below.
