‘Coraline’ Teaser Trailer
space
Empress Eve   |  @   |

CoralineThe teaser trailer for Coraline, the animated stop-motion film written and directed by Henry Selick based on Neil Gaiman‘s 2002 children’s book, is now online. Watch the trailer here below.

The 3D version of this teaser trailer ran prior to 3D theatrical screenings of the Gaiman-scripted Beowulf late last year and in December, Gaiman posted a sneak preview clip (see ‘Coraline’ Sneak Preview).

In the film, Dakota Fanning voices the young girl Coraline, who discovers a parallel home to hers complete with another mother and father who entice her to remain with them. But once she’s there, she finds out that things aren’t what they originally appeared to be.

The voice cast also includes Teri Hatcher, John Hodgman, Ian McShane, Dawn French, and Jennifer Saunders.

Coraline is scheduled for release in February 6, 2009.

‘Fanboys’ Re-Cut Incites a Rebellion
space
Empress Eve   |  @   |

FanboysBack in the Geeks of Doom Summer ’07 Movie Mayhem post, I wrote the following about my anticipation for the Star Wars-themed film Fanboys, “The only thing that could possibly suck about this movie is the fact that I’m not in it.”

Well, looks like there actually might be more that could suck about this film — WAY MORE. Like the fact that it started out as an homage to Star Wars fandom, but the word out now — first reported by TheCineManiac, then confirmed by Cinematical — is that’s the movie has been completely changed.

The original description of Fanboys was that it was comedy about a group of friends (played by Sam Huntington, Kristen Bell, Dan Fogler, Jay Baruchel, and Chris Marquette) who take their friend who’s dying of cancer on a cross-country trip to sneak into Skywalker Ranch in hopes of fullfilling the friend’s dying wish to see an advanced screening of Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace.

Now, the film has been re-cut to ditch the “dying of cancer” storyline completely, which means that the group of friends are now breaking into Skywalker Ranch simply because they’re fans and want to see The Phantom Menace ahead of time. THAT SUCKS!

A group of Star Wars fans who donated their time and props to Fanboys has started a rebellion against the Weinstein Company called Stop The Darth Weinstein, and have opened up sites dedicated to the fight at MySpace, Beam.to, and Seeya.at (Read the letter from the Stop Darth Weinstein Squadron over at AICN).

David Fincher to Direct ‘Black Hole’
space
Empress Eve   |  @   |

Black HoleZodiac director David Fincher will helm Black Hole for Paramount Pictures and MTV Films, according to Variety.

Alexandre Aja had originally been tapped to direct the film adaptation based Charles Burns‘ 12-issue comic book series, which took the author over a decade to complete and was compiled into graphic novel form in 2005.

Beowulf co-scrbes Roger Avary and Neil Gaiman signed on to adapt the screenplay in March 2006 (see Gaiman and Avary Enter the ‘Black Hole’).

Black Hole centers around a sexually transmitted disease called “the bug” that’s plaguing the local teenagers with hallucinations as well as physical deformities, stigmatizing them from the rest of society.

The zombie genre has permeated the comic book industry the world over, nearly saturating the market with two-dimensional undead. Big names like Robert Kirkman and even Warren Ellis have gotten into the act, with The Walking Dead, penned by Kirkman, as the ultimate in graphic fiction, the soap opera zombie film that doesn’t end, while Ellis’ Black Gas takes enough narrative turns to give a reader whiplash.

Lucky for us, Nick Tapalansky and Alex Eckman-Lawn deliver a fresh perspective on the instinct-driven flesh eaters with Awakening. Cline Pharmaceutical, a giant corporation, moved into the town of Park Falls and left under mysterious circumstances. Not long after, a plague of murders cuts through the population, escalating the fears and concerns.
