On the heels of the massively successful release of The Dark Knight, actor Christian Bale voluntarily went to a London police station and was arrested on charges of assault against his mother and sister at a London hotel on Sunday.
Bale’s relatives reported him to police on Monday. After four hours in custody, Bale was released and is due back in September barring anything further. Bale has denied all allegations of assault made against him.
Not long after these reports surfaced, TMZ discovered that this in fact could have been a case of verbal assault, as apparently there are classes of verbal assault in England which can result in arrest.
So, the family was hanging out, mum and sis wanted a little piece of the $224 million and growing machine that is TDK, Batman yelled, and that was that. What’s the big deal? Since when is a little family tiff illegal? Of course, it could have been much worse than that and I like just to speculate, but honestly I don’t see this becoming much. If you’re a mother and your superstar son yells at you at a hotel, you’re probably going to take offense and be shocked and put him in his place the only way you can… by pressing charges. Why not?
More official details will surely come about on this one soon. For now, it seems Bale has little concern for whatever may have transpired, having attending The Dark Knight‘s premiere in London on Monday evening.

They really arrested him?
Thought they just asked him to come to the police station.

This is really crazy. I hadn’t seen the verbal assault angle mentioned before, so that’s a little bit reassuring. But jeez. Just weird.
