‘The Day The Earth Stood Still’ International Trailer
space
BAADASSSSS!   |

The international trailer for Fox’s upcoming remake of the 1951 sci-fi classic The Day the Earth Stood Still is now online and you can watch it right here below.

This latest in the endless train of unnecessary remakes is directed by Scott Derrickson and stars Keanu Reeves in the role originally played by Michael Rennie. Reeves is supported by Oscar-winners Jennifer Connelly and Kathy Bates.

The movie looks interesting with a direction that leans toward more ecological themes than the post-war threat of nuclear Armageddon that haunted the original, but with the exception of a cool spaceship and the awesomeness that is Klaatu’s badass robot protector Gort, Robert Wise’s original film was big on ideas and short on visual effects. The new version seems to ride high on hollow CGI spectacle.

With the planet facing the worst environmental crisis it has seen since its earliest days, this new Day could either strike a chord with socially-unaware audiences or get lost in the holiday stampede. One thing’s for sure, few actors have the look of a strange, otherworldly being that Keanu Reeves possesses, and the dude’s not even wearing make-up.

Judge for yourself when the Earth begins standing around minding its own biz beginning December 12, 2008.

TV Review: ‘Sons of Anarchy’ Episodes 9-11
space

AnarchySons of Anarchy
Episodes 9-11
Starring Charlie Hunnam, Ron Perlman, Katey Sagal
Wednesdays @ 10pm – FX Network

There are many thing I love on good episodic TV. I love it when brings two love interests together, only to rip them apart in necessary fashion. I love how out of nowhere a character dies suddenly making you realize just how important this person was to the show but most of all. I love it when a good show finally goes and heads in the direction of a great show. This is exactly the case with this next set of episodes of FX Network’s Sons of Anarchy.

Sons of Anarchy tells the story of the inner workings of a biker gang with a iron grip over a small California town named Charming. The gang is led by Clay Morrow (Ron Perlman) and his step-son Jackson “Jax” Teller (Charlie Hunnam), who has a crisis of faith after his son is born. He is unsure of the path his life is headed in and those sentiments are cemented once he discovers his father’s lost journals. Turns out, when Jax’s father created Sons, he had whole different purpose for the gang. So as Jax fights the demons within, he leads the Sons in battles against rival gangs, local and federal law enforcement, and even those within his club.

DVD Review: Knocked Up (Blu-ray)

Knocked Up Blu-ray DVDKnocked Up
Blu-Ray Unrated Edition
Directed by Judd Apatow
Starring Seth Rogen, Katherine Heigl, Pall Rudd, Leslie Mann
Universal Studios Home Entertainment
Release Date: September 30, 2008

Ben Stone (Seth Rogen) is living the easy responsibility-free life. A court settlement gave him enough money to sit around and get stoned with his housemate for a few years. In contrast, Alison Scott (Katherine Heigl) is an up and coming entertainment reporter working at E! These seemingly polar opposites both go out for a night of fun and end up hooking up for what it seems both intended to be a one-night stand. Too bad Ben didn’t use protection. Alison is pregnant, she’s keeping the baby, and the two decide to see if they are compatible enough try an actual relationship.

Rogen is a funny guy, but I think his Frat Pack cohorts may have put him on center stage too early. Despite its own charms, Knocked Up is not as good as some of the other FP movies out there. It fails to comment on the responsibilities of parenthood in the subtle ways the other films poke fun at social norms, but there is still plenty to find funny. I know I may be in the minority with that opinion, but to me, Knocked Up does not have the same rewatch value as other movies with this group.

Groovespook   |

I was watching E Hollywood Soup the other night and was OVERJOYED to hear (and see) Seth Green announce that Adult Swim on The Cartoon Network will be premiering Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II on November 16 at 11:30pm (ET/PT).

Anyone who saw the first Robot Chicken: Star Wars Special will know, this will be a RIOT.

GoD salutes Seth Green and the whole crew from Stoopid Monkey/Robot Chicken for continually managing to demonstrate the firepower of their fully operational comedic genius at the innocent and peaceful planet of the dull and treacherous everyday.
