| Ridley Scott’s ‘Robin Hood’ Being Rewritten By Tom Stoppard |

Remember when I said that the loose ends had been tied and that we could move on from all of the confusions that had arisen since pre-production on Ridley Scott‘s Robin Hood? Well, I appear to have been wrong, because there’s now yet another interesting twist in the construction of this film. The word on the ‘net from Showbiz 411 (the new site from Roger Friedman — the man fired for reviewing that leaked copy of Wolverine for Fox) is that Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love, Brazil) is handling a complete “top-to-bottom” rewrite on the script penned by Brian Helgeland (Mystic River, Man on Fire). The curious thing here, is that this movie is already a good chunk of the way into filming, and we’ve even seen star Russell Crowe in in character. So how do these rewrites affect the progress? Are they stopping and changing everything, or is Stoppard simply adding his fingerprint to each scene with a tweak here and there?

| Oliver Stone & Michael Douglas Set To Return For ‘Wall Street 2’ |

The LA Times is reporting that director Oliver Stone and actor Michael Douglas are now officially set to return for what’s currently being called Wall Street 2 — the sequel to the 1987 hit that snagged Douglas an Oscar for Best Actor. Also being reported is the possible addition is young gun Shia LaBeouf, who is in talks for a role in the sequel. A sequel to Wall Street has been rumored for quite a while now, but given the country’s harsh economic situation, it was only a matter of time before they all decided it was ripe enough. Just a short time ago, Stone had pulled himself off the project, so some large and impressive changes must have been made to win him back. The basic word on the plot is that the movie will take place two decades after the first, and it will return us to Gordon Gekko (Douglas), who is now getting out of prison. Thankfully, the talented gents over at Latino Review always find a way to get information on a script, so there’s more to be known. Their report on the sequel tells us that Gekko was sentenced to 14 years in prison in 1988 for Tax Evasion, Security Fraud, and Insider Trading. When we pick up with his release, he has moved on to traveling around and making lectures, as well as writing books. Eventually, he finds himself making a deal with Jacob (possible LaBeouf) in order to reconnect with his daughter, who happens to be engaged to Jacob.

 Sin City
Directed by Robert Rodriguez, Frank Miller and Quentin Tarantino
Starring Bruce Willis, Clive Owen, Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba
Release date: April 28, 2009
Every so often a movie comes along that startles and stirs conventionalism and ushers in a new brand of filmmaking; filmmaking which possess dualities ranging from oddly enchanting to vigorously ruthless. In 2005 Robert Rodriguez‘ film version of Frank Miller‘s graphic comic Sin City was that force of a movie that abandoned traditional comic book adaptations and elaborated upon the film noir genre, which has been around since the late 1930s, by initiating a unique update while still holding true to the meat and potatoes behind a genre that glorified gloomy alley ways, dampened cobblestone streets and gorgeously delicious femme fatales possessing diabolical schemes and knives prepared to be impaled into the backs of delusional men. Now don’t think that if a director wakes up one morning deciding to reinvent and upgrade a genre that his illusions will turn into an artistic triumph. Evidence for such directors making boneheaded decisions by injecting hyper-serum and hypnotic imagery are Michael Davis’ Shoot “˜Em Up and, surprisingly, Frank Miller’s The Spirit. Not so much do these films qualify as cinema but they are better placed within the category of pointless parodies. These two such films were still able to break the conventionality that’s tied to the gangster picture as well as the action picture. But one ingredient they forgot to include in their dream projects, and that’s a heart dedicated to initiate and defend its change.
