Remakes are back on the menu today, so let’s just skip the unoriginality of Hollywood discussion and get right to it, shall we?
Disney is planning a remake of the 1986 science fiction family movie, Flight of the Navigator. Brad Copeland — writer of Wild Hogs as well as a few episodes of Arrested Development and My Name is Earl — is working on the screenplay. It will be produced by David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman of Mandeville and executive producer Johny Hyde, who did the same for the original.
I have to say, if we’re remaking all of these movies, this is one of the ones that makes sense and might just work well. Flight of the Navigator is one of my personal childhood favorites, and it always seemed a little before its time, only making near $20 Million at the box office. It did a lot better on that glorious VHS, but maybe today’s technologies are what it really needs to thrive.
Next up: Mac and Me? No? Alright then.
