Danger Comes In February With ‘Justice League: Doom’

Justice League: Doom

DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment revealed the February 28 release date and box cover art for the next DC animated feature, Justice League: Doom.

Justice League: Doom, an animated film based off of the events of Mark Waid’s Tower of Babel story, is the next movie in the popular line of animated films featuring the characters of DC Comics. The feature will star a wide variety of actors voicing the members of The Justice League including Nathan Fillion as The Green Lantern, Michael Rosenbaum as The Flash (Barry Allen), Tim Daly as Superman, Susan Eisenberg as Wonder Woman and the return of Kevin Conroy as the voice of Batman.

So, to fans of the DC Animated Universe, the voices we know and love will be in full force for this film. That alone is something to be excited about. But let’s get to the synopsis.

Mark Waid’s Tower of Babel was in essence a story about what happens when Batman becomes almost too prepared. Batman, as a character, is known for many things, but in the comics, one of the most important things is being prepared for any and all eventualities. That includes being prepared in the event that one of his Justice League teammates goes rogue. So, when he prepares for these instances, it shows a lack of trust towards his teammates and when they find out, The Justice League understandably is less than happy. Where the film seems to differ, however, is with the inclusion of the The Legion of Doom. In the comics, it was The Injustice Gang that featured a different set of villains than what we see in the film. And while the film will show a great deal from the story, it will no doubt live on its own. So, don’t expect to be spoiled on this new animated feature by reading Tower of Babel.

Justice League: Doom is the final DC animated screenplay adaptation by the incredibly talented Dwayne McDuffie, who tragically passed away in early 2011, and will be executive-produced by animation guru Bruce Timm. Directing the film will be Batman: Year One‘s Lauren Montgomery who is also listed as a producer alongside Batman: The Animated SeriesAlan Burnett. And, as usual, the voice casting and dialogue direction will be up to the always amazing Andrea Romano. So, obviously this feature has the potential to be one of the greatest installments in the series of DC films.

I’m extremely excited by Justice League: Doom, as the team behind it has done nothing but prove how good they are, and the trailer that has been released is a fantastic tease. So, make sure to check out the film on February 28, 2012 and check out the box cover art that shown here below.

I like the idea, dislike how the heroes look on the box art. They look too fake, like late-90s Marvel Flair (trading cards) CG artwork.
