Remember the Tronorail, Disney World’s Tron-themed monorail that operated in the theme park back in 2010 as a promotion for Disney’s Tron: Legacy? It caused quite the stir with some people outraged that Disney would put what they considered to be advertisements on the monorail.
Well, guess what? A new themed monorail is on the way to Disney World, this time for the Marvel Studios film The Avengers, according to the Disney Parks Blog. This Spring, one of the Magic Kingdom Park monorails will get an Avengers-themed makeover in time for the film’s opening on May 4.

In the film, directed by Joss Whedon, a bunch of popular Marvel superheroes who you’ve already seen in their own live-action movies will team up and save the Earth. Yes, it’s that simple… basically. Look, all you need to know is: Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Hulk. BAM!
Ok, so back to the Avengorail. If you’re wondering what Thor and company are doing at Disney World, then you might not recall that Disney now owns Marvel, and I, for one, have been waiting for the Marvel invasion at the Disney theme parks. And, I love the idea of the themed monorails. I mean, I get people thinking of them as ads, but as long as they keep the theme relevant and not make it a Coca-Cola or KFC monorail, then I can dig it. So far, Disney’s only doing this for their movies, which makes sense. Wonder which movie will be next.
Oh, and for the Tronorail, the vehicle never went into the Magic Kingdom, only into EPCOT’s Future World section, because Disney felt it would be more appropriate there. For The Avengers monorail, the Disney Parks Blog expressly said it was one of the Magic Kingdom monorails getting the makeover, so I wonder what their rational is for that and will the naysayers totally pitch a fit that superheroes are encroaching upon the zip-a-dee-doo-dah of Main Street?
[UPDATE 3/31/2012 @ 2:45pm EST] The good folks over at Inside The Magic have already spotted the new Avengers monorail in action – check out the video they took here below, and be sure to visit their site to see some more pictures of the monorail.
