George Takei To Target That Explosion and Fire Again In Sulu Spinoff ‘Star Trek: Excelsior’

Empress Eve   |

George Takei

It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for ever since we heard Captain Sulu give the order to “Target that explosion and fire” in 1991′s Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. Paramount Pictures announced today, April 1, 2012, a new Star Trek movie entitled Excelsior. The spin-off film will see George Takei return as Captain Hikaru Sulu to the bridge of the starship U.S.S. Excelsior.

Those involved with the film are keeping a tight lid on plot details, but Geeks of Doom’s sources have confirmed exclusively to us that the film will find Sulu and crew back to cataloguing gaseous planetary anomalies in the Beta Quadrant. Whether Sulu will give the command to fly the ship apart is still unknown, but with a movie like this, you can be sure that Sulu will give his catchphrase order of “Shields up!”

Takei took to his Facebook account to share the wonderful news and reveal that J.J. Abrams will direct, with Roberto Orci penning the screenplay. He also said that Gilbert Gottfried will be playing a wily Ferengi First Officer and Lisa Lampanelli a Bajoran security officer in the upcoming film, along with Takei’s Allegiance co-star Paulo Montalban as Agha, the grandson of Khan.

The only problem with this news is that it was announced today [you know, April Fool's Day], because let me tell you, Excelsior is a movie I wanna see, and that’s no joke. Perhaps we’ll have an April Fool’s Day miracle like we did with the Tauntaun sleeping bag and Excelsior will become a reality!

I knew that this was an April Fool’s Day joke as soon as I read the headline.  I’m not saying Sulu (or George Takei) couldn’t support his own spin-off; but c’mon, Takei has been talking about this for years and it’s never gonna get made.

They should make ST: Excelsior into a tv show!
