Could David Tennant Be Joining The Cast of ‘Fast Six’?
space
BAADASSSSS!   |

David Tennant

This could just be a rumor, but it’s too cool not to report. Take it with a few grains of salt if you please.

Hot on the heels of the news that Welsh actor Luke Evans (The Hobbit) was recently offered the villain role – a part once intended for Jason Statham – in next summer’s turbo-charged action sequel Fast Six (or The Fast and the Furious 6) comes the mildly startling revelation that the movie might be getting a little extra class in its cast in the form of David Tennant. The former Doctor Who star is reportedly being wooed by Justin Lin – the director of last year’s mega-successful Fast Five as well as its previous two sequels – for an undisclosed role in what will surely be another summer slam dunk for Universal Pictures.

The rumor comes courtesy of El Mayimbe over at Latino Review:

“According to sources, former Doctor Who David Tennant has been in talks over skype with director Justin Lin for a part in the film as well.

I don’t know which role specifically, whether it’s a bad guy role, or a good guy role as one of Luke Hobb’s men but trust me, they been talking.”

Before you read too much into this heed the words of Mayimbe: “It’s talks, not an offer.”

Best known to Doctor Who fans as the Tenth (and the best in my opinion) Doctor, Tennant has never capitalized much on his international cult following in major Hollywood films, outside of last year’s Fright Night remake (his Peter Vincent was one of the highlights). He also provided the voice of Spitelout in the 2010 animated hit How to Train Your Dragon. Whatever role Tennant takes in Fast Six – be it hero, villain, subordinate, or another supporting player – it would interesting to see the Scottish Shakespearean actor trying out his gilded dramatic chops against action flick heavyweights Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson.

If Tennant does sign on he’ll be in some very fascinating company: MMA fighter Gina Carano, recently seen kicking ass and looking gorgeous in Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire, is currently in negotiations to join the Fast Six cast and it was recently revealed that Michelle Rodriguez will be reprising her role from the first and fourth Fast movies. Pop singer Rhianna is also rumored to be taking a role in the movie as well.

Fast Six will open on May 24, 2013.

  1. He does great in anything he’s in. I’m just glad to see him in anything, to be honest. I think whatever role he’s given, he will do awesome and the film will be better for it.
