We’ve heard rumblings the last couple of weeks about a Guardians of the Galaxy movie as one of the next movies coming from Marvel Studios, but Saturday’s Marvel Studios panel at SDCC gave us an official confirmation.

The film will be released August 1st, 2014 and will feature the newest incarnation of the group. The team featured in the movie will be Starlord, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Drax the Destroyer, and Gamorra.

You can see the very first image from Guardians of the Galaxy, a bit of concept art showing off the team (remember, this was just recently confirmed), above or below now.

We still don’t have any word about the director or any of the cast, but we did get some concept art of the team. I’m still wondering what this movie will be like, with the possibility of a host of CG characters, not to mention introducing a whole cast that may be a bit much for anyone who is not familiar with the Marvel cosmic universe.

If Marvel can get the right director and cast, I’ll be much less worried, but until I actually hear names, I will remained cautiously optimistic.
