Ant-Man

The Ant-Man excitement escalated when Edgar Wright made a surprise appearance at the San Diego Comic-Con. During his panel he presented the test footage he shot for the film and to absolutely no surprise to anyone, nearly everyone in attendance cheered.

So what’s next for the Marvel hero who could change his size in a matter of moments? Well, getting the movie into production after Wright completes his work on The World’s End, of course.

In an interview with Collider, Marvel co-president Louis D’Esposito (director of the new short Item 47) talked about the next steps for Ant-Man. According to him, we could very likely see the film in 2014, if Wright was willing to head into production when he finished his work on The World’s End. Head to Collider for the full-length interview.

Wright has been modifying the Ant-Man script for a while, having already turned in two drafts. Marvel Studio President Kevin Feige said that he hopes to put the film into production shortly. Now with a projected date, we can probably assume that the latest Ant-Man script is to their liking.

The following quote also hints at the possibility of Marvel releasing three films in one year as opposed to the usual two:

But he’s such a competent filmmaker; the script is in great shape. The test will prove a lot of things on the visual effects front: how do we handle the shrinking, obviously, and the scale issues, because when he’s small he’s a half-inch. So we’re gonna work that out, maybe that’s when we do a third film.

Since Ant-Man is not a high-profile character that would not fit into the summer tentpole mold, we could possibly see the film some time outside of the blockbuster season. Who knows, 2014 is a big year after all and Marvel has already scheduled Captain America: The Winter Soldier for an April 2014 release and Guardians of the Galaxy for an August 2014 release.
