Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson haven’t starred in a movie together since Wedding Crashers. The two definitely had some chemistry together hitting all the comedic notes at just the right time. So it was pretty exciting to hear that they would pair up for a second time in Shawn Levy’s The Internship. The film will focus on two 40-something year olds who are out of a job and out of touch with the technological world. They try to navigate their way back into work by taking internships at Google and realize they may be out of their league.
Check out the first trailer for The Internship below.
While watching the trailer, there will be a certain degree of disbelief trying understand a film like this. The characters seem so out of touch with the generation they’re is in. Wilson’s character riffs off the entire list of Terminator movies, Vaughn’s character understands the basics of fist bumping, yet the two have no idea who Professor Charles Xavier is? That’s a little hard to believe. Also hard to believe are the two’s inability to understand how Skype works. Again, if you can mention all four Terminator movies and other blockbuster hits like The Hunger Games, then you lived in a time where there was internet.
The duo’s inability to understand which pens to use to write on glass walls and the sexual innuendos during the fist bumping bit was funny, but are there enough gags like that to pull off a film that should have come out years ago? Let’s hope, as The Internship does have promise, but I think the generational gap might hurt it in the end.
Rose Byrne, John Goodman, Jessica Szohr, Dylan O’Brien, and B.J. Novak also star. The Internship opens in theaters on June 7, 2013.
