Da Vinci's Demons

A package recently arrived which contained within a wooden box with a message on top to UNLOCK THE GENIUS with the date 4-12-13. What could this be? Why, it must be a Doom Delivery!

Upon opening the box, I found a note inside from the good people at STARZ regarding their new show, Da Vinci’s Demons, which airs tonight at 10pm ET/PT. The eight-part original series is an historical fantasy which tells the untold tale of a young Leonardo da Vinci and reveals his “demons.” It turns out that the contents of the box are actually meant to help me tap into my inner genius! Woo! The kit contained a journal – so I can put my own ingenious thoughts to paper – and a Da Vinci’s Demons t-shirt that reads “ARROGANT, VISIONARY, BASTARD” on the front, with the back displaying the show’s logo.

You can check out a photo of the box and its contents here below, as well as watch a few teaser videos for the series.

The network also included a DVD of the first episode, which had my full name on the label, which I really dug, although I didn’t love seeing it watermarked throughout the episode! (But hey, I understand, piracy and all). Anyhow, I saw a promo spot for the show a few weeks ago and immediately was like, what the hell is this, I gotta check it out! So, I pop in the DVD, there’s my name, two people talking, and … wait, wait, wait, is that who I think it is??? Is that Alexander Siddig aka Dr. Bashir from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine?!?! Yes, yes, yes, it is! Ok, I’m in, you got me.

Oh and guess who created the series? One Mr. David S. Goyer, co-writer of The Dark Knight Trilogy and the upcoming Man of Steel.

So, be look out for our full review here at Geeks of Doom real soon and make sure you set those DVRs to STARZ for 10pm ET/PT tonight.

“Da Vinci’s Demons” follows the “˜untold’ story of the world’s greatest genius during his turbulent youth in Renaissance Florence. Brilliant and passionate, the twenty-five year old Leonardo da Vinci (played by Tom Riley) is an artist, inventor, swordsman, lover, dreamer and idealist. The eight-part series is created and penned by David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Man of Steel), who also directed the first two episodes.

Da Vinci’s Demons premieres on Friday, April 12th at 10pm ET/PT, exclusively on STARZ. After the premiere, the series will air on Friday nights at 9pm ET/PT.

In a world where thought and faith are controlled, one man fights to set knowledge free.

The secret history of Leonardo da Vinci’s tantalizing life reveals a portrait of a young man tortured by a gift of superhuman genius. He is a heretic and skeptic intent on exposing the lies of religion. An insurgent seeking to subvert an elitist society. A bastard son who yearns for legitimacy with his father.

He finds himself in the midst of a storm that has been brewing for centuries. A conflict between truth and lies, religion and science, past and future. His aspirations to improve his position in life bring him into contact with the two opposing forces of the time””the Vatican and the Medici family who both try and lure him onto their side.

Leonardo must take up the fight against foes who use history to suppress the truth. A hero armed only with his genius, da Vinci stands alone against the darkness within, and the darkness without. Facing an uncertain future, his quest for knowledge nearly becomes his undoing as he explores the fringes of his own sanity. Da Vinci uses his unparalleled genius as a weapon against his enemies and emerges as an unstoppable force that lifts an entire era out of darkness and propels it into light.

His story becomes a mirror into our own world, calling us all to join his fight to Free the Future.
