The creative mind of author Neil Gaiman seems like it’d be a perfect match for a video game, and he has in fact tried on multiple occasions back in the ’90s to get involved in the world of games. But sadly, all of those attempts ended without a game being made, and so he stopped trying for a while.
Video games are completely different now, of course, so Gaiman felt it was time to give it another go, and this time it worked out.
Gaiman’s first game is titled Wayward Manor, and the first part will be released this fall on multiple platforms. You can find out more about the game and what it’s about, and also watch a video of Gaiman talking about the announcement below now.
The game is made in collaboration with The Odd Gentleman and Moonshark, and follows a ghost who wants to exist in the afterlife in peace, which means finding a way to scare away the people who now reside in the house that was once his. But in doing so, the ghost learns more about how he actually died. An old Victorian Gothic estate in New England is where the story takes place, and it’s set starting in the 1920s and spanning until sometime in the near future.
As you’ll see in the video below, the story Gaiman came up with for Wayward Manor was inspired by movies like Arsenic and Old Lace, The Man Who Came To Dinner, and also living in New England. Seeing as how I personally am a Gaiman fan, adore Arsenic and Old Lace, and was born and raised in New England…you could say I was easily sold by this.
The game will be released this fall on PC, Mac, and tablets. You can pre-order it now at WhoHauntsNeil.com.
