| New ‘X-Men: Days Of Future Past’ Viral Video, Images & Website For Trask Industries
A new viral website has gone live for Trask Industries, the fictional corporation from the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past headed by Bolivar Trask (Peter Dinklage), whose goal is to protect humans and their freedom from the ever-growing mutant threat with his creations, including the Sentinel program. The program, which was first launched in 1973, sees the mutant threat combated with 18-foot, nearly 5,000-pound artificial intelligence machines called Sentinels designed to destroy mutants. The website gives us our first look at Dinklage as Trask, in all his ’70s glory, as well as loads of information on what the company does, why mutants are dangerous, and why you’re safe with Trask’s defense systems. Also found on the site are a video for the company and some cool images/propaganda posters, which can be seen below.

Peter Jackson, director of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, has been working hard over in New Zealand over the last few weeks finishing up on the filming of his most recent Tolkien trilogy, The Hobbit. The director has posted photos to his Facebook page of the final days on The Hobbit set, including one of star Martin Freeman‘s last day on July 12 (here below), and then the final shot done on July 26, 2013. One of the last pictures of the filming that Jackson posted on Facebook was taken two weeks ago of Sherlock stars Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch together on set. Freeman has the lead role in the film trilogy as the hobbit Bilbo Baggins, while Cumberbatch is voicing the dragon Smaug, who is the center of attention in the second film, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, due out in theaters on December 13, 2013. In the photo, shown here below, which Jackson titled “Smaug admires Bilbo’s feet,” Cumberbatch is touching Freeman’s prosthetic Hobbit feet. Check out the photo here below.

| Aussie Feliks Zemdegs Wins 2013 Rubik’s Cube World Championship
More than 575 competitors coming from 37 countries descended upon Las Vegas this past weekend for the 2013 Rubik’s Cube World Championship at the Riviera Hotel & Casino. At the end of the three-day speedcubing event, where some of the world’s best Rubik’s Cube solvers competed in 17 classic and non-traditional official cubing events, a winner was crowned. Feliks Zemdegs of Australia was crowned this World Champion at this year’s Rubik’s Cube World Championship by solving the 3×3 cube with a winning time of 8.18 seconds; he also won the top spot in the 4×4 Rubik’s Cube and the One Handed 3×3 Rubik’s Cube competitions (one-handed!?!?!). Along with the top honors, Zemdegs also received a trophy, a selection of Rubik’s Cube prizes, and $3,000 in prize money, which from the looks of it was given to him in stacks of $2 bills, which I really dig (I’m a big fan of the $2 bill).

Dark Horse Comics

The Strain is a series of vampire novels by visionary Renaissance man Guillermo del Toro (perhaps best known for directing tiny little films like the Hellboy series) and Chuck Hogan, who previously penned The Town. Last Fall we received news that a made-for-television series is being developed for the FX Network, now this month we are treated to the first issue for series two of the ongoing comic adaptation from Dark Horse Comics. There is a government conspiracy, a really nasty virus, and a bunch of modern day folks trying to survive something so large and complex in scale, they cannot possibly understand all its implications yet. The clichés don’t even stop there. However, it’s due to the stellar writing that I am willing to walk this rather pessimistic and possibly predictable comic journey a few more miles. Thank goodness for del Toro and Hogan.

Edgar Wright‘s Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy is coming to a close — Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz were the first two, with next month’s The World’s End finishing it up. The trilogy combines humor, dry wit, and clever spins on genres. So how do you commemorate the end of the collaboration of director Wright and actors Simon Pegg and Nick Frost? Well, you hold Cornetto Trilogy screenings, of course. That’s right, you get to watch all three films in one day, the night before The World’s End is officially released. And even if you do not have a Regal Cinema theater near your living area, Wright assures his fans that there will be plenty of opportunities to watch this film and the other two on the big screen. Announced just before the film’s August 23rd release, Regal Cinema has released a schedule and list of theaters that will participate in this hysterical occasion. Hit the jump for more.
