Wait, What? WB Chooses Ben Affleck To Replace Christian Bale As Batman

Batfleck: Ben Affleck is Batman

According to Variety, Warner Brothers has their new Dark Knight – and it will be Ben Affleck. The “bomb in Phantoms yo” is to replace Christian Bale in the franchise, and will co-star alongside Henry Cavill as in the upcoming Batman vs. Superman crossover film slated as the direct sequel to Man Of Steel.

I’m surprised at this revelation. First off, I’ve never been able to picture Affleck as Bruce Wayne, much less Batman – his demeanor really doesn’t fit the characterization. That being said, Affleck has shown to be adaptable in some of his movies, so this might be an interesting result.

However, my real surprise is how “early” it feels for this casting announcement. While the Batman vs. Superman film is slated for a 2015 release, it feels awful early (to me, anyway) for WB to put all their eggs in a single basket. As a matter of fact, despite the news release from Variety, at the time of writing this, I still can’t find any official press release from Warner Bros. verifying this news. Pardon my skepticism. [Update, there are official statements from WB president and director Zack Snyder.]

“We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics’ most enduringly popular Super Heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some,” WB president Greg Silverman said in a statement.

“Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry’s Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne,” Snyder said in a statement. “I can’t wait to work with him.”

So, Daredevil is now Batman? We’ll see how this pans out. Let us know your thoughts below. Is this a good move by Warner? What do you think Affleck will bring to the role?

  1. As Predicted by NoSyDoomus, Success will always at some point be followed by Failure.

At least they can get this shite out of the way with a one and done and maybe by 2018 we will have a decent Batman movie we can watch.

  5. They had to change something. Where is Nolan, he should slap their faces.

  6. Fine by me. I think he will be better than Bale. His Dare Devil wasn’t bad either. It was the movie that didn’t cut it. I hope new batman movies will be more like the PS3 games. I don’t actually want a reboot, event though I’m not a Nolan fan, but he pretty much ended his version of the Dark Knight saga, didn’t he? Maybe Batman will only be in Justice League movies for a while.

  7. I have to give the guy a chance. Daredevil and Gigli was years ago, his acting has improved. I think he may surprise us.

  9. How ridiculous! So what was the point of introducing Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Robin in The Dark Knight Rises?! Are you telling me that the end scene where Levitt discovers the bat-cave was completely worthless?!?! Extremely dissappointing…

  10. Truly a terrible idea – especially after the bullshit of a movie that Argo was.

Can Affleck prove us all wrong? Yeah, he does have the capability.
Will he prove us wrong? Nope. Between Affleck and one of the most over-rated directors working in Hollywood today (Snyder), I fully expect Batman Vs. Superman to be a shitstorm of a popcorn flick.
