‘Ghostbusters’: For One Week Only, There’s Something Strange In The Neighborhood

Thirty years ago, I was a rambunctious 2-year-old who only knew Sesame Street and PBS. Thirty years later, I’m a crazed movie geek with an overflowing DVD collection who spouts movie lines at will. One of the quintessential films that my friends and I grew up watching, re-watching, and quoting was Ghostbusters, Ivan Reitman‘s comedy of bungling scientists and real-life spooks in NYC. Imagine the euphoria upon finding that we thirtysomethings now have a chance to view one of our favorites in theaters for the first time!

To commemorate the 30-year anniversary of its debut in the Summer of 1984, Ghostbusters is back in theaters starting today for ONE WEEK ONLY! Who you gonna call?

Blending the perfect cast of comic talent including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, Rick Moranis, and Sigourney Weaver, pinpoint dialogue filled with some of the most unforgettable one-liners (“He slimed me.”), and groundbreaking visual effects, Ghostbusters has achieved classic status and is one of the only movies where it’s near impossible to find someone who doesn’t love it. So grab your proton-pack and suit up with Pete, Ray, Egon, and Winston as they set out to find out why there’s something evil coming from the fridge in Dana Barrett’s apartment. Go check her out”¦ I mean, go check out her apartment”¦ whoops.

If for some bizarre reason you haven’t seen it, this is your chance to catch AFI’s #28 ranked comedy of all-time on the big screen. If you’ve seen it dozens of times, even better! Relive your favorite moments and lines from the script written by Dan Aykroyd and the late great Harold Ramis. Time is of the essence, so jump in your Ecto-1, blast some Ray Parker Jr., cross the streams, and prepare for mass hysteria. And whatever happens, don’t let some Walter Peck stand between you and the popcorn line.

The mid 1980s produced some of the most timeless films. After Ghostbusters celebrates its Big 3-0 with a one-week theatrical run, a Blu-ray containing both Ghostbusters movies digitally restored and packaged together in a DigiPak (the 1989 sequel is one of the better ones out there) will be released on September 16, 2014.

Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson lead the cast as the “Ghostbusters,” spirit-exterminators who fearlessly take on the other-worldly evil infiltrating Manhattan, whether it manifests itself as wicked green slime or an ancient tyrant back from the dead to take over the world. The spooktacularly successful franchise captured the imagination of audiences around the world and redefined the action-comedy genre in the process.
