The History Channel announced today that a spinoff of their very popular show Vikings, called Valhalla is set to hit the air in Summer of 2016!
“This is an opportunity to bring back all of those characters we loved and lost in a believable way,” show creator Michael Hirst told GoD. “Our viewers have been really upset with us as of late, and that, coupled with the curiosity of just what Valhalla is, is what pushed us to create this show.”
A full cast has not been set as of yet, but George Blagden is already signed on as Athelstan, who has wrongly been sent to Valhalla, instead of Heaven. His journey will mirror the choices he had on Earth, as he tries to figure out whether or not he wants to stay or be reunited with his true god. Kevin Durand will play Odin/ Harbard (we knew it!), and Jessalyn Gilsig will reprise her Siggy role, as her heroics saving Ragnar Lothbrok’s children, earned her a place there. And Jefferson Hall as Torstein is signed on! Torstein definitely earned his right to Valhalla, when he bravely faced the Mercia soldiers by himself.
No word as of yet as to whether Gabriel Byrne will be back as Earl Haraldson or Thorbjorn Harr as Jarl Borg will return. If you remember, Jarl Borg died via the torturous Blood Eagle and did not cry out, making him worthy of entrance to the great hall.
Although new cast has not been found yet, Hirst is eyeing Christina Hendricks (Mad Men) for the fole of Freya, and really wants Chris Hemsworth for the role of Thor and Tom Hiddleston as Loki, but their Avengers commitment prevent them from doing so. Wouldn’t that be awesome though? I know I’m going to tune in.
Who else would you like to return? Let us know!
