And just as the week comes to a close, another group of images showing us more about Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) and her fellow squadmates who are assigned one of the Rebellion’s most dangerous mission yet. They must steal the plans to the Death Star. Check out the brand new image gallery below.
Once again, the news comes to us from Entertainment Weekly, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they have a producing credit in the film at this point. But I digress.
One of the things pointed out is the fact that the film will be our first look at the Deathtroopers. It is suspected that they are some form of experimental military force used by Director Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn), which is why we never would see them in subsequent saga films. That remains to be seen, but you can bet our interest in this new form of Stormtrooper has been piqued.
Other pictures don’t offer much in terms of new details. Chirrut Imwe (Donnie Yen) is a blind warrior monk who isn’t a Jedi but has faith in their belief system. Some may have noticed that in addition to the staff, he is equipped with a bowcaster, which means that Wookiees aren’t the only ones who used that weapon.
There will also be two alien species who will fight alongside the Rebel Alliance, and although they do not have a huge part in the film, director Gareth Edwards joked that they could have their own spinoff movie.
Rogue One will also be the first to utilize a camera that is mounted on a helicopter. Traditionally, the Star Wars saga films are “more classically composed.” However, Edwards says “he’s going for a hand-held, you-are-there approach to filming this battle, and a hovering, swooping camera angle could be an interesting component of that.”
