Meet The Geeks

The Geeks of Doom   |

In April 2006, co-publishers Empress Eve and Dave3 launched Geeks of Doom with the goal of bringing geeky entertainment news and features to the masses and to create a haven where the independent geek could voice his/her opinion.

GoD has the inside skinny on the latest geek-related news, comic book, movie, video game, and music reviews, as well as interviews with industry geeks, contests, and giveaways, and articles about everything else that shines under our geeky sun.

We write about what we love! We ARE the comic readers, we are the movie goers, we are the target market. We’re able to write from the perspective of the average unbiased fan, because we ARE those fans.

GoD is independently owned and operated by Empress Eve and Dave3, both of whom have full-time day jobs and a mortgage to pay.

WordSlinger

Andrew DuPont (WordSlinger)

About: A former journalist turned videographer/editor, I went from writing about the craft I love to doing the craft I love for a living. I’ve always been a big movie buff, but working in television as a video editor has given me a deep appreciation for all the tech work that goes into film making and rarely gets the deserved amount of credit. I like to review movies and video games mostly, especially if I’m not part of their intended demographic (rarely the case with a video game). Mostly I’m a proud geek.

About: My birth name is Robert Edward Morgan II, named for Robert the Bruce, Edward the Great, and Morgan the Clinically Insane. I have traveled across a portion of these United States but keep finding my way back to Richmond, VA. Look away Dixieland and just keep thinking of the rabbits. Writing is one of my passions as are slam poetry, synchronized swimming, nude volcano surfing, and circa- 1967 impressions of Jack Nicholson. I also love to take long walks without a pre-determined destination and smoke and drink coffee at the same time. When I was a kid I wanted to be Max Allen Collins. Obi-Dan

Dan Bond (Obi-Dan)

Contributor, UK Correspondent

About: Deep within the body of the universe, inside the great colon of life exists a creature and the great Cornholio said unto him, ‘at the risk of infringing copyright laws and at the expense of originality, you shall forever be known as Obi-Dan.’

That probably didn’t happen.

I was born in a hospital, to a woman, on my birthday, somewhere in the UK. I don’t claim to be the world’s best critic, just a geek who watches a lot of cool stuff and writes about it.

Three-D

David Dominic DiMichele (Three-D)

Contributor

About: I appreciate it when a novel or film acts as a traveling guide, making evident before my eyes the magnificent worlds, the ever-changing locations and the array of different characters that inhabit these environments. I find it necessary to engage and indulge in all the film and books possible because to make fair and sound judgments one has to partake in watching as many movies as one can and reading as much as possible. I’m currently a senior at Point Park University where I am anxiously completing my degree in English Literature. Hoping to build upon my education I will be attending graduate school at the University of Duquesne. I’m trying to progress in life while doing something I absolutely love: writing about film.

Waerloga69

Gary Makries (Waerloga69)

Contributor

About: Introduced to Kiss live in concert, Batman comics and the original Star Wars all in the same month in 1977, my inner geek reared it’s ugly head and I was never the same again. My first job was in a comic, gaming and book store, solidifying my need for all things nerdy. Hundreds of AD&D campaigns and thousands of fantasy books later, I am able to hold my own in almost any geeky convo. My everyday suit and tie attire hides a plethora of piercings and a crap ton of tattoos. I’m always willing to try anything (book/comic wise, you perv). I spent almost twenty years in the book business (my first love) at several different companies and also trained under an actual chef, so I’ve got some skills in the kitchen, too. I’m red-headed and Scottish so if I seem angry, it’s because I am trying hard to earn an actual Red Lantern Ring. My goal in life is to start my own comic and book cult, er…I mean store.

Jen Daniele

Jen Daniele (The Book Slave)

Contributor

About: Raised in Brooklyn, NY, a most colorful place, I’ve always been an ardent observer of humans and their peculiar behavior. I marvel at the language they use to amuse, disparage, delight and malign each other. I will read anything in front of me, from toothpaste tubes to ginormous ancient tomes. I am a slave to the written word, whether I’m reading human stories or writing reports to send back to my home planet (I’d tell you which one, but then I’d have to break out the death ray, which is messy). My tastes run the gamut from low-brow to high concept. In between reading and writing, I enjoy picking up my bass guitars. I don’t really play, I just like to plug in and hold them. Sometimes sounds come out and I get giddy. I’m a kickass bass owner.

Favorite writers: Stephen King, Shirley Jackson, Joseph Heller, Matt Taibbi, Neil Strauss, David Foster Wallace
Favorite bands: Metallica, The Who, Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Rush, The Cure
Favorite piece of music: Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in D minor: Choral, Op. 125
Favorite awkward moment: Meeting Dan Aykroyd. It was the only time I’ve ever squealed with delight and told a complete stranger that I love him.
Favorite way to scare myself: By convincing myself that the odd noise I heard in the middle of the night was not human, canine or mechanical and, therefore, must be demonic in nature.
Favorite food: Anything that’s not shellfish, which will kill me in a most heinous way.

Michael Carroll (Spartacus!)

Contributor

About: Growing up, Michael Carroll was on route to becoming a normal, healthy, contributing member of society when a passing interest in ‘Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends’ mixed with an unsupervised upbringing, led to Alan Moore and Robert Crumb, like petty shop lifting leads to homicide.

Michael has spent anywhere from a few months to a few years living in these states: Colorado, Alaska, California, Washington, Massachusetts, Ohio, Illinois and Texas.

He has been in Brooklyn, New York since 2006 where he works in the exciting field of Cable Access television. He lives with his super amazing girlfriend, Olivia, his cats, Colossus and Shadow Cat, and his amesome mustache.

Michaels favorite media tends to be what he is currently consuming, and has been for some time. That said, he hopes you find the following illuminating –

The Insomniac

The Insomniac

Contributor

About: Abandoned by his jet setting parents in Madagascar as a baby, The Insomniac was raised as a feral child by a family of sloths until his sixteenth birthday. At 16, he was rescued by a group of Columbian Treasure hunters searching for the lost tomb of Machau Pichou. Adopted by Sir Quentin Loriard III, he spent his formidable years drifting from Oxford University, where he majored in Latin Physics and Pre-Raphaelite Nutrition, and the shores of Paraguay where he sold Crystal Methamphetamine to sex-crazed senior citizens on Carnival Cruises.

He is the only man to ever balloon his way across Wyoming.

He once crossed swords with Craig T. Nelson at midnight across the rooftops of Maine.

He once spent ten years in a Tibetan Monastery meditating on the collected works of Asterix and Obselisk.

He holds Guiness World Record for Making Love to The Most Circus Sideshow Acts.

And now he brings his industrious energies to Geeks of Doom, where he will endeavour to clean this crap show of a website up.
