As a kid who grew up in between two generations of Star Wars, it was odd to see the stark difference between the two. Though each generation may have its fans, Star Wars will continue to tell stories of a galaxy far, far away. Two years ago, Star Wars: The Force Awakens started a new trilogy, and last year we saw the first spinoff of its kind in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Now with the impending release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, fans are not only interested in seeing what the future holds for Rey, Finn, and Poe, but also Luke Skywalker and General Leia. Of course, there are others who are looking beyond The Last Jedi.
For Star Wars: Episode IX director Colin Trevorrow, he has his work cut out for him, as plans to have Leia in a more crucial role in his film had to be reworked when Carrie Fisher died last year. While it is still not clear what kind of role Leia would have had in the film, it appears that Trevorrow still wants to make sure that these films will resonate not only with current fans, but also new ones as well.
