Kevin Feige On DC Rivalry, R-Rated Marvel Movies, Venom Spinoff

Kevin Feige Comic-Con #4

For the past 10 years or so, Marvel Studios has been king of the superhero movie genre. So not only has other competing studios caught on to their success, but they have been trying to mimic it. Though there have been attempts to make their own shared universe work, some studios realized that it takes a little more effort to build one as massive as the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But Marvel doesn’t really get all the credit. Despite their mounting success, they have yet to release a female-led superhero film. Something that Warner Brothers’ Wonder Woman not only has accomplished but shattered the glass ceiling.

Others had to make deals. Like Sony finally sharing Spider-Man. And Marvel finds themselves on the other side looking in as Fox has proven that R-rated superhero films could work. Kevin Feige talked about all these things during a Facebook-live event, and you can find out more about what he had to say about it below.

Patty Jenkins directs Wonder Woman

It wouldn’t be at all surprising for a studio to sign a director on for a sequel after a film’s success. Given how Wonder Woman shattered all expectations, one would hope that director Patty Jenkins would already be signed on to direct Wonder Woman 2. There were reports going around saying she was.

However, that doesn’t seem to be quite the case. While Jenkins isn’t signed on, Warner Bros. will start a negotiation process with her very soon. More on the story below.

Justice League Aquaman Jason Momoa

It’s very easy to get excited for a film like Wonder Woman, especially with the positive reception it has been getting as of late. And the same goes for Justice League, the mega-ensemble featuring some of the greatest DC heroes of all time. But since its production start date announcement, we know next to nothing about Aquaman. He’s one of the few characters to be introduced in Justice League, but getting his own standalone feature after it.

However, unlike Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad, and Wonder Woman affecting the events of Justice League, Aquaman will take place after Justice League. Find out more on this story below.

But just after that list was reported, word is that Raimi has taken himself out of the running. And that’s just the beginning. Another potential director we didn’t know about, Marc Webb, is also passing. It appears that Barry Allen will be without a father in the standalone film as well, as Billy Crudup has also dropped out. The Flash Starring Ezra Miller

Warner Bros. isn’t giving up on the cinematic version of The Flash. Though the Scarlett Speedster has only made two cameo appearances, with his first major one coming in Justice League, he has yet to appear in his own standalone film. After the studio had a falling out with Seth Grahame-Smith and Rick Famuyiwa over creative differences, the studio went back to the drawing board, canned ditched Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s draft, and opted to use a script written by Joby Harold (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword).

Now WB is ready to find a director. It’s being reported that Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Who Framed Roger Rabbit), who had been previously rumored, is still in the running, while the studio has also had meetings with Matthew Vaughn (X-Men: First Class, Kingsman) and Sam Raimi (Evil Dead and Spider-Man trilogies). More on the story below.
