Doom Digest

Every day here at Doom HQ we receive tons of tips from our readers about really cool stuff from the world of geek, as well as promotional materials for new films, comic books, collectibles, and much more. While we do our best to bring you as much of it as possible, we don’t always have enough geek manpower available to cover it all on a daily basis. But we hate the idea of all of this really cool stuff wasting away in our inbox. How could we NOT cover it? Hence why we’ve resurrected our long-defunct column Bits Of Doom, now rebranded and revamped as Doom Digest, a collection of easily digestible bits of news, videos, photos, and other goodies.

Today: [REC]3 poster, new trailer for Disney’s Brave, a dancing TARDIS, Avengers eye makeup designs, the CAT-AT cat condo based on the AT-ATs from The Empire Strikes Back, plus some Bits Of Doom [and a special Avengers birthday!].

Doctor Who

The TARDISblend podcast is back, this time for a Doctor Who Series 7 Prediction Wishlist, featuring special guests Anthony Ha and Andrew Sorcini. We offer our sincere predictions as to where Steven Moffat will be taking Series 7 for Matt Smith‘s Doctor, and then also reveal our wishlists – things we’d love to see in Series 7, 8, and beyond.

Meanwhile, we also cover the most recent Doctor Who news, including the official BBC announcement of Jenna-Louise Coleman landing the role of the new companion for the second part of the upcoming season. We also discuss the new teaser trailer, that was a surprise release for fans; and the most recent news of not just the Daleks appearing in the first episode, but ALL the Daleks!

And to close out, we discuss our final predictions for the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who in 2013; we respond to your comments on the past episode, and as always, we make some Classic Doctor Who recommendations, and highlight what is coming up for both the future of this Whovian podcast!

Certified Pre-Owned TARDIS

The deal of the day over at Things From Another World today is — and you Doctor Who fans are going to love this — a Certified Pre-Owned TARDIS!!!

Note, this deal is valid only for today – APRIL 1, 2012, until 11:59pm EST while supplies last, and with an item as rare as this, I’m thinking it will be gone real soon! And chances are, this kind of opportunity won’t come around again in your lifetime.

According to the product page, this 10-foot-tall TARDIS is only slightly used and features ample storage space and remote keyless entry, as well as a gourmet kitchen with professional-grade stainless-steel appliances, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, and – most importantly – a stereo with AM/FM radio and cassette player. Wash

By Not Sure

Through sci-fi and our limitless imagination we can live forever, we can touch the stars, and we can best any foe. There is a romance in that free and unbelievable escape, a poetry to the words of Bradbury, Wells, and the contemporary masters. Sci-fi fans Tashi King and Kevin “Wash” Pratt felt the pull of that romance and their shared love of it made their love for each other stronger. Just 22 and 24 when they married, the two were partners in crime, going to Cons and taking in copious amounts of Joss Whedon and Doctor Who.

It’s a familiar story to those who are lucky enough to have someone to share their interests with and it’s a thing that others who don’t have that often wish they did — a friend, a partner, someone to geek out with. For Tashi and Kevin, though, things would soon take an awful turn.

It began with Kevin losing his job as an architect and then snowballed from there. Sarah Fenske from the Phoenix New Times tells the full story here, but in short — Kevin stopped laughing and he stopped being himself. This wasn’t depression though and it wasn’t marital troubles. Kevin had a tumor in his brain, an aggressive one that had compromised his memory, his physical ability, and his state of being. Worse still, the tumor, a gliobastloma multiformeit, was a likely death sentence, usually taking those afflicted by it 9 to 12 months after diagnosis 95% of the time. Kevin is presently 27 and he has lived with terminal brain cancer for 28 months.

The GuiTARdis, acoustic model

As a life-long lover of all things Luthier, as well as all things Whovian, I believe I just discovered exactly who I’m going to see when I am ready for my next guitar.

Arthur Yet Lew.

Our magnificent mate Craig Hurle, who runs the Doctor Who and the Tardis community page, pointed us toward this awesome homebrew The Doctor Who Tardis Guitar, aka the GuiTARdis, acoustic guitar that Lew crafted. I then spent a good hour drooling over it whilst imagining all the gigs I would crash throughout space and time… Hendrix at Monterey; Crosby, Stills & Nash at Woodstock; Queen at Live Aid; The Beatles at Shea Stadium…. what, with with the power of the TARDIS at my very fingertips.
