The City of New York and Sony Pictures will host Spider-Man Week in NYC from April 30 to May 6 to celebrate the premiere of Spider-Man 3 and to honor the city the Marvel Comics superhero has called home since 1962.
The week-long celebration will include more than two-dozen live events, screenings, parties, promotions, and exhibits throughout the five boroughs. The week kicks off with a Spider-Man 3 cast appearance and street festival in the Today show plaza in Rockefeller Center.
New York City landmarks such as the Central Park and Bronx Zoos, the American Museum of Natural History, and the Apollo Theater will also host events throughout the week. The Tribeca Film Festival’s will host the premiere of Spider-Man 3 in Queens — Peter Parker’s hometown — on April 30, four days before the May 4 opening, with additional screenings in all boroughs.
“Because New York City is Spider-Man’s hometown, we wanted to find a way to make the launch of the summer moviegoing season, and ‘Spider-Man 3,’ really special for the city and its people,” said Jeff Blake, vice chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment, which is working with the city’s marketing and tourism arm, NYC & Company. “We want residents, businesses and visitors in every borough to enjoy Spider-Man’s homecoming in a special way.”
