Last week the internet was on fire with rumors that a teaser trailer for Cloverfield 2 might be playing in front of the arrival of Iron Man 2 when it was released last weekend.
As you can read at the bottom of our post on that rumor, there was also the chance that it could instead be a collaboration that J.J. Abrams was doing with Steven Spielberg, which would be a nod to the master film maker’s science fiction and horror work in the ’70s and ’80s. In either case, it was very clear that movie fans had something to be excited about for the 2011 summer movie season.
After that, we received an exclusive spy report of the mysterious trailer, which made it clear that it was without doubt the Spielberg collaboration. And though many were saddened that it was not Cloverfield 2, that sadness will quickly be replaced by excitement when you witness the teaser trailer here and now.
Grab your hand-held camera — just in case — and be sure not to miss a frame when you click over to the other side to watch the trailer for J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg’s Super 8.
Now, just because this isn’t Cloverfield 2, don’t think for a moment that those insane viral marketing techniques will not be used. In fact, the viral chaos has already began with this trailer. At the end of this, you may notice that some letters or symbols quickly flash over the screen. Someone was able to freeze and reveal all of them, which spelled out the words “Scariest Thing I Ever Saw” and the website of the same name.
And that’s not the end of it — head over to /Film for an awesome recap of the viral campaign so far, including hidden message and a picture of what looks like a scared boy OR it could be the alien from Mac and Me (if the boy’s nose becomes an alien mouth), which is absolutely not the scariest thing I’ve ever seen. That would be the kid from Pet Sematary. Mac and Me is second.
Watch the trailer here below, or head on over to Apple for the prettier versions!
