The Walking Dead comic book series is now available on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch courtesy of digital comics distributor comiXology, along with series creator Robert Kirkman and Image Comics.

The Walking Dead app, a stripped down version of the comiXology digital comic book application — which is currently used by Marvel, Boom Studios, DC, and Image — was created to help generate additional buzz leading up to the October 31 premiere of The Walking Dead television show on AMC.

The first issue of the series is free to everyone, with subsequent issues priced at $1.99 each — a full $1.49 cheaper than those print versions. There’s also the option to buy the collected editions for $8.99 – $9.99, which is also less expensive than buying the print versions if you factor in the cost of shipping from online marketplaces.

Purchases made in The Walking Dead app will also be available in the Comics by comiXology app and online at http://comics.comixology.com.

I will say that it’s refreshing to see the entire series library available without a mess of options or distractions, especially for anyone who hasn’t yet indulged in the black and white flesh-eating glory that is the comic book. But what’s really nice about this application is the ability to let you read any comic purchased on other comiXology platforms, which includes their main applications and on their website.
