Mooonrise Kingdom director Wes Anderson has just cast another high profiled actor for his upcoming dark comedy The Grand Budapest Hotel. After dispelling rumors that Johnny Depp had a role in the film, reports are coming out that Ralph Fiennes has been cast as one of the hotel employees.
Fiennes joins an impressive cast including long-time Anderson collaborators Bill Murray and Owen Wilson. Angela Lansbury, Edward Norton, and Jude Law also star.
According to Variety, Fiennes will be playing the concierge of the titular hotel. This casting came a bit out of left field as Fiennes was not even on Anderson’s wishlist to begin with. However it’s great to see that Fiennes is in the company of great actors and actresses.
While Fiennes is best known for his dramatic work in films like Schindler’s List, The English Patient, and the Harry Potter series, he has been known to deluge in some comedies like In Bruges and Maid in Manhattan. His upcoming roles include Great Expectations and Skyfall.
Not much is known about The Grand Budapest Hotel. Anderson has said that it would be the darkest of all his works. It should be interesting to see what other characters the actors play in the movie.
So what do you think of Fiennes joining Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel?
