A lot of what makes Despicable Me so adorable are those lovable mischievous yellow minions that go around assisting Gru (Steve Carell). The first trailer for Despicable Me 2 featured only three minions singing their off-key rendition of “Barbara Ann.” But it didn’t tell us anything about the sequel at all.
Now a new holiday-appropriate trailer has hit the web and it seems to tell us that the sequel will be focused on them. Check it out after the jump.
In the trailer one of the minions tucks one of Gru’s daughters into bed while singing a lullaby. As it decides what to do to pass the time, it and a fellow minion hear some strange noises coming from outside. They come to find out that it was nothing at all, but by the end of the trailer three minions go missing and the song “Save Me” is heard. While it has been confirmed that these little yellow troublemakers are getting a movie of their own, it seems that the sequel will be focused on the kidnapping of these minions.
Directed by Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud, Despicable Me 2 features the voices of Kristen Wiig, Miranda Cosgrove, Russell Brand, Steve Coogan, Ken Jeong, and Al Pacino. The film opens in theaters on July 3, 2013.
Here is a slightly vague plot description of the movie:
Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s worldwide blockbuster, Despicable Me, delighted audiences around the globe in 2010, grossing more than $540 million and becoming the 10th-biggest animated motion picture in U.S. history. In Summer 2013, get ready for more minion madness in Despicable Me 2. Chris Meledandri and his acclaimed filmmaking team create an all-new comedy animated adventure featuring the return of Gru (Steve Carell), the girls, the unpredictably hilarious minions…and a host of new and outrageously funny characters.
