Recently one of the many expected rumors regarding new Star Wars movies surfaced claiming that Disney was going to make a standalone movie separate from Episode VII and the other numbered movies that would focus on the popular character Yoda.
Along with this rumor came assumptions that Disney’s plan was to make multiple standalone movies based on various popular characters from the Star Wars universe.
Now comes word that this is indeed what Disney’s plan is. In an interview with CNBC, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that Star Wars spinoff movies focusing on individual characters were on the way.
In the interview, Iger also confirms that that screenwriters Lawrence Kasdan (who penned The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi) and Simon Kinberg (Sherlock Holmes, X-Men: Days of Future Past) are working on these character spinoff movies. It was initially thought that they were working on the screenplays for Episode VIII and IX.
What Iger doesn’t confirm, however, is which characters they’re focusing on making movies about. But with this news, the Yoda rumor feels much more substantial now than it did when it first arrived.
