The great Patrick Stewart, best known for his work as Captain Jean-Luc Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation, is set to be married to Sunny Ozell, a 35-year-old jazz singer whom he’s been engaged to since 2009.
And, according to Ian McKellen, he’s the one that’s going to marry the couple…something that he’s done for friends in the past.
McKellen made the announcement while appearing on the U.K.’s Jonathan Ross Show, and then semi-answered how he’s able to perform such a ceremony:
“I’m going to marry Patrick [Stewart]. I am going to officiate at his wedding.
I don’t know. But in Massachusetts, in the middle of America somewhere, you get a friend along, and I read out the words, and Sunny and Patrick will then be married. “¦ I’ve done it once before with two guys having a civil partnership. I was crying my eyes out.”
The full answer is that the Secretary of Commonwealth in Massachusetts offers a friend or family member of someone getting married the ability to perform the wedding ceremony for a one-time fee of $25. Whodathunkit?
McKellen and Stewart starred together in the first three X-Men movies, and will again be appearing together in X-Men: Days of Future Past, the sequel to X-Men: First Class.
I’m right next door to Massachusetts. Maybe I can get myself an invite.

I have to say that I found the title misleading. Had I not read the article I’d have assumed that Ian McKellen was marrying Patrick Stewart. BUT otherwise, this is great news. It’s so sweet!

It’s easy to assume that because Sir Ian McKellen is gay. They should say something like “is officiating the ceremony of…” or “has obtained license to perform the marraige of..”.
Either way, it’s awesome. And I’m proud to be from MA where people are free to marry whomever they desire. Liberals love love. :)

That’s interesting because I thought the two men would rather similar.
