After Annapurna Pictures founder Megan Ellison won a bidding war to obtain the rights to the film, the company is now looking towards various studios to distribute it. One of the top companies they are in talks with are Paramount Pictures, who already hold distribution rights for highly successful film franchises like Star Trek and G.I. Joe.
Drive Angry‘s Patrick Lussier and Shutter Island‘s Laeta Kalogridis penned the script. No word yet on who will direct the film.
But the distribution rights isn’t the biggest news. What’s huge is that Arnold Schwarzenegger confirms that he will be starring in Terminator 5 and that production for the film will commence in 2014. Not only that, but he said that he will return as the Terminator. It was expected that he could return as a human character who is connected to Skynet in some way. But that clearly isn’t the case any more.
The actor took some time to speak to The ArnoldFans.com, where he confirmed the big news. According to him, production for the film will start as early as January 2014. Schwarzenegger also confirmed that he will have starring roles in two other films he was in; Conan and Twins.
Here’s the direct quote:
“”¦ In fact, I’m very happy that the studios want me to be in Terminator 5 and to star AS the Terminator, which we start shooting in January [2014] and I’m also going to do King Conan – to play that role and also to do another Twins movie. So I feel very proud of that. I feel very happy and I’m looking forward to doing those films.”
As aforementioned, no word as to who could direct Terminator 5, but reports have Fast & Furious 6 director Justin Lin at the top of a shortlist.

I would like to quote one of my favorite movies in response to this and the Arnold-Conan return, “Just when I thought you couldn’t possibly be any dumber, you go and do something like this…”
(To Arnold), As someone who grew up in the 80’s watching your movies religiously. I say this, “Please stop this nonsense. We the people don’t want you in a new Conan movie or a Terminator movie. To be completely honest, we don’t really want to see any more Arnold movies; unless it’s True Lies 2 (then again it’s 20 years to late for that as well). This self-exploitative behavior is on the level of Honey Boo-boo. Enjoy your golden years with your family, not with Hollywood.”
