Much Anticipated Next-Gen Game ‘Watch Dogs’ Pushed Back To 2014

One of the most anticipated games of the next generation, which begins next month when the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are released, is the Ubisoft title Watch Dogs.

The game was scheduled for release on for all platforms, this generation and next. Unfortunately for those who have been eagerly awaiting its arrival after numerous incredible gameplay demos, that wait just became a whole lot longer.

It’s been announced that the game has been delayed, and will now be released sometime in the spring of 2014. You can read a full statement on the decision below.

“Following is a statement directly from the Watch_Dogs development teams.

Our ambition from the start with Watch_Dogs has been to deliver something that embodies what we wanted to see in the next-generation of gaming. It is with this in mind that we’ve made the tough decision to delay the release until Spring 2014.

We know a lot of you are probably wondering ‘why now?’ We struggled with whether we would delay the game. But from the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality. As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune every detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you. We thoroughly enjoy and appreciate the way you respond on the web, at events, press conferences and during other opportunities we have to interact. Your passion is what drives us.

We can’t wait to see you in Chicago next Spring. We are confident you’ll love this game as much as we love working on it.”

Video games are often delayed, as it’s quite difficult to estimate when they will be completed. So many people working on so many things, plus the need to polish and re-polish until it’s as bug free as possible, means that days, weeks, and months can easily disappear from your anticipated window.

This is actually good news for me, as I never planned on getting a new console at launch—we’ve seen too many issues in the past to risk it; I’d much rather wait, see what’s being said about the pros and cons of each, and decide then whether to commit or wait for price drops. The one problem with waiting is that I so desperately wanted to play Watch Dogs, and unlike a lot of other titles being released soon, it was the one I really wanted to play with next-gen power. Now my wait should be an easier one!

What about you? Can you wait a little longer for Watch Dogs?
