Just a quick update for you this evening: yesterday it was reported that Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues star Paul Rudd had entered into negotiations to star in Ant-Man for Marvel Studios and director Edgar Wright.
Now comes word that the papers have been signed, the ink is drying, and the deal is officially closed. Paul Rudd is Ant-Man.
In the confirmation announcement, Marvel says that Rudd was always their first choice for the role, “continuing the studio’s desire to cast actors that bring several dimensions to its onscreen heroes,” despite the fact that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was also in contention before signing on to work on WB’s The Sandman.
Of the news, Marvel’s Kevin Feige said:
“When Edgar Wright came to us with the idea of Paul Rudd, we felt a huge sense of relief because the first step in creating any Marvel Studios film is finding the right star. We knew early on that we had found the right person in Paul. When he not only agreed to do it but became as enthusiastic as any actor we’d ever met with about doing the work, we knew we’d found the right guy. We couldn’t be more excited for our audiences to see what he’s going to do to bring Ant-Man to life.”
Ant-Man will be released on July 31, 2015.
