Ubisoft's Splinter Cell

In case you weren’t aware, Ubisoft is on a mission to change the way people look at movies based on video games…which is, generally, quite poorly. They have movies in development based on many of their game franchises, including Assassin’s Creed, Ghost Recon, Watch Dogs, and Splinter Cell.

We first heard about the Splinter Cell project about two years ago now, and later that The Dark Knight Rises and Inception star Tom Hardy was attached to the lead role, Sam Fisher. Now comes word that a director is in sight.

It’s being reported that Doug Liman, who made The Bourne Identity back in 2002, is now in final negotiations to helm Splinter Cell.

The games and movie follow Fisher, a super spy who works for a super secret government agency called Third Echelon, which specializes in taking down terrorist bad guys.

Other movies that Liman has directed include Swingers, Go, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Jumper, Fair Game (2010), and the upcoming Tom Cruise flick Edge of Tomorrow.

The hope is to begin production on Splinter Cell sometime in August, and release the movie sometime in 2015.
