Yesterday we shared a quick post with a video showing off what 1988’s Who Framed Roger Rabbit looked like while filming as compared to the finished movie. It’s fun to see, and gives fans who haven’t seen it new appreciation of the work Bob Hoskins did in that movie. Today, just like that, Hoskins is gone.

It was confirmed earlier today that the British actor has passed away after a battle with pneumonia. His family released a statement saying he died peacefully and surrounded by his loved ones. He was 71 years of age.

While perhaps best known for Roger Rabbit, Hoskins played a wide variety of characters in a long list of notable titles including Mona Lisa, for which he was nominated for an Oscar and won a Golden Globe, The Long Good Friday, Brazil, Mermaids, Hook, Super Mario Bros., Nixon, Enemy at the Gates, Mrs. Henderson Presents, Hollywoodland, Doomsday, and the 2009 performance capture take on A Christmas Carol.

Hoskins’ most recent (and ultimately final) role was as one of the dwarves in Snow White and the Huntsman in 2012. He retired after that due to being diagnosed with Parkinson’s diseases in 2011.

Helen Mirren shared her thoughts on Hoskins and her time working with him, describing the actor as “a spectacular firework rocket just as it takes off.”

Hoskins’ daughter Rosa also shared her thoughts on her father, as well as a list of 11 lessons he taught her over the years.
