Yesterday saw the crushing news that Edgar Wright won’t be directing Ant-Man, what is to be the first film in Phase Three of Marvel Studios’ Cinematic Universe.
Now, Latino Review has an exclusive report that Drew Goddard will no longer be working on Daredevil, the Marvel/Netflix co-production that will be one of four new Marvel live-action series coming to the streaming service. No word yet on why Goddard, who directed and co-wrote Joss Whedon’s Cabin in the Woods, has left the project and no official announcements have been made.
It was revealed back in November that Goddard was to be a writer, executive producer, and showrunner for Daredevil, which will get 13 episodes starting in 2015. (After the series ends, there will also be a Defenders miniseries, which will see Daredevil join forces with the three other Marvel superheroes who are also getting their own Netflix series — Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage.)
While Goddard had been attached to the Daredevil project at Marvel Studios, it was announced in April that the screenwriter would write and direct Sinister Six, the Spider-Man spinoff being produced Sony Pictures, which currently owns the rights to several Marvel Spider-Man franchise.
Latino Review reached out for official confirmation, but with the holiday weekend upon us here in the U.S., they don’t expect an update til Tuesday at the soonest.
So, for now, it’s all speculative, but if it’s confirmed, it will seem like Marvel Studios is cleaning up house right now.
