Rumor: Avengers Roster To Change In ‘Age Of Ultron’; Marvel Rethinking Ms. Marvel

Change is inevitable, and in the comic book world change is always happening in order to keep things fresh. And with Marvel Studios creating their cinematic universe, whatever changes happens in the comic book world may reflect what could happen in the cinematic universe. So it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see the Avengers roster changing. And that is the newest rumor to emerge from the mill.

There are rumors that we will see a new Avengers roster at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Does that mean some of the Avengers will die? Who will make up the new Avengers? Who will lead them. Hit the jump to see some of the answers to these questions, but beware of potential spoilers.

Badass Digest was the first to report on the latest rumor. It’s not entirely surprising that audiences would be seeing a new roster. But we don’t know who will survive the aftermath of Ultron’s destruction. We do know that Cap’s identity will not be changing any time soon. And we do know that Robert Downey Jr. is signed on for Avengers 3. We also know that Jeremy Renner is signed on for a couple of Marvel films. But this still does not tell us who will still be on the team, but the site does have a slight idea of what kind of Avengers we will be seeing in Phase 3.

According to the rumor:

Cap will assemble a team that is a mix of familiar and new faces, leading forward into Phase Three.

I find it hard to believe that The Winter Soldier would be a part of that roster considering Cap is still off looking for him. But Falcon may be an option. Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch may also be added to the team. War Machine who made a brief appearance in the Comic-Con footage may also be added. But there is also a chance that the new roster could add new members we haven’t seen yet. A member like Ms. Marvel.

Badass Digest is also saying that Marvel Studios is rethinking how to introduce Ms. Marvel into the Cinematic Universe. Finding a strong female superhero for a solo film has been a top priority for Kevin Feige. In fact she may be segued into the MCU by a cameo. Which would make sense. Principle photography is completed on Age of Ultron, but there are always reshoots happening during the course of the post production process, so Marvel may be thinking of giving her just a few minutes of screen time before fully introducing her into a film. There are still a few Marvel Mystery Movies on the schedule, aside from Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Doctor Strange, Captain America 3, Thor 3, and Ant-Man. Plus there is also the rumored Inhumans film to think about.

While a lot of how she will be introduced is just a bunch of rumors, Marvel may be rethinking of how she will actually be introduced. Here’s an excerpt from the site:

But now I’m hearing that Marvel has cold feet about including her in the film. Not because they’re against the character – my sources assure me she is coming and it’s very plausible she could be on the team in Avengers 3 – but because they’re not certain they want to introduce her in this way. They basically aren’t certain they want to just drop her into the MCU fully formed in a team movie.

Now this still doesn’t answer what happens to the team for the change to happen. Does someone die? Does someone do something so reprehensible that causes another to leave?

We won’t know the answers for sure until the film is released on May 4, 2015.

  1. Franklyy, I am kind of surprised we have not seen Carol Danvers in the background anywhere yet. And since the Kree are now well established as major players, and we have Drax, Thanos, and Ronan on the scene, can Mar-Vell be far behind? And since Ms. Marvel got her powers as a result of an incident involving Mar-Vell (in both the comic and the cartoon universe), they would have to do some creative adaptation of the character not to involve him. That would be like War Machine without Iron Man, or the Wasp without Ant Man (except that both Ant Man and Iron Man were always more popular characters that Mar-Vell, and nether of them shared a name with a classic, massively popular hero from the Golden Age)

  2. Considering Robert Downey, Jr’s. recent praise of Guardians of the Galaxy, I wonder if it would be possible to involve him a bit in the GoG2 sequel (the fact that Iron Man joined the Guardians for a while in the comics doesn’t make this all that far-fetched). Expand the Kree involvement there and introduce both the Mar-Vell and Danver characters (basically showing her origin). I can’t see them delving into the Kree, Mar-Vell or Ms. Marvel in any standalone movies, so a Guardians sequel seems as good a place as any. Honestly, all of that could be done without Iron Man honest (and his presence would seem a bit unnecessary), but it would form a bridge for the Danvers character to end-up an Avenger.
