“What’s that in the mirror… or the corner of your eye? What’s that footstep following, but never passing by? Perhaps they’re all just waiting. Perhaps when we’re all dead… out they’ll come a’slithering from underneath the bed.”
The Doctor (Peter Capaldi) begins a quest that has been a focus of his life, a mystery that, with the help of Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman), may bring more questions than it does answers… And the only way we can find out the truth, is to Listen…
During TARDISblend 75, we discuss our reactions to one of Steven Moffat‘s finest contributions to Doctor Who, a vast contrast to the previous episode. Later, we speculate on how some elements may tie into the overarching plot running through this current series.
All this and more on the latest TARDISblend!
Presented by Greg Davies (cGt2099 from The BLENDOVER Podcast and The Heavy Metal Historian Podcast) and geek journalist Tom Cheredar of VentureBeat, TARDISblend is a podcast that takes a look at the ongoing adventures in the Doctor Who Universe – as Peter Capaldi makes his beginnings as the next Doctor!

I have to say I was genuinely scared during the blanket ‘creature’ scene. The hairs on the back of my neck raised in tandem’s with Rupert’s. Excellent direction and use of silence. Chills all around. I loved the one line references to the Pinks’ time-traveling legacy that clearly points to he and Clara and naturally the toy soldier following them through decades. Moffat does an excellent job of writing episodes that bring everything full circle and with Clara actually being the creature under the bed… Bit of perfect Moffat-ty writing there. I expect nothing less from him. The anti soldier theme continues, and a nice way to plant that from The Doctor’s childhood, I hope this all pays off. The reference to classic Who, just sealed it. A clear reminder that a fanboy is writing for all of us. Best episode of series 8 yet. BUT – here’s my only beef with this episode, which I absolutely loved. How the hell did Clara get to Gallifrey if its time locked? My son mentioned the ‘safeguards’ being off, which was mentioned at least twice, like you said – but then wouldn’t he just go to Gallifrey straight away? I see what you’re saying about maybe it isn’t? IDK man… and Yes – TUMBLR, get on that artwork!
“Gallifrey During The Time War” is under a Time Lock.
“Modern Gallifrey Post-War” is missing in a ‘pocket universe’
Gallifrey Pre-War is open to access if the Doctor has safeguards off on the TARDIS, but as he hinted with Clara crossing her own timeline, encountering himself or Gallifrey before the Time War could be potentially catastrophic.
So it’s not impossible, just very unsafe! On top of that, with Gallifrey being ground central for the Time Lords, it’s anyone’s guess as to how many available time threads involving the planet even exist.
That said, another issue worth mentioning: we really don’t know if the “Barn Planet” is actually Gallifrey. It’s implied that it is, but not specifically said!
Ok, ok! I’m sold. haha Tricky stuff. But that’s why I frakkin’ love it. And I love geeking out with you guys, always opening up a different perspectives for me. Thx!
Im sorry but please replace Tom. Greg is a wonderful host who does such a great job at analyzing and dissecting each episode…only to be followed up with negative complaints by Tom. That’s if you can actually get more than a sentence out of him. Greg will go on with a topic only to be followed up with no reply (dead silence) or a simple “Yeah”. – Zero to no contributions to the show and when he does speak its something derogatory about each episode. Greg needs a suitable co-host.
