Boardwalk Empire star Jack Huston has reportedly been cast in the remake of The Crow, according to Dread Central, who got the scoop directly from Crow creator James O’Barr.
The site caught up with O’Barr, who’s a consultant on the new film, this weekend at the Lexington Comic and Toy Convention, where they asked him about who would be filling the lead role of Eric Draven aka The Crow.
Here’s the scoop from Dread Central:
O’Barr said that “Jack Huston has definitely been cast,” that he was “really happy with that choice,” and that the film “will shoot in a couple of months.” He also said the film will essentially be a straight adaptation of his original graphic novel, which differs quite a bit from the (still awesome) 1994 Brandon Lee vehicle.
The Crow, which will be a remake of the the 1994 cult classic from director Alex Proyas that starred Brandon Lee, is a prime example of a project that’s been stuck in development hell for years and has seen people sign on and drop off many times over the years. The Relativity Media production most recently lost its previous lead star Luke Evans reportedly thanks to The Hobbit star wanting to “pursue other projects” (translation: he was tired of waiting for this one to get off the ground). (He’s since signed on to play the brutish Gaston in Disney’s live-action retelling of Beauty and the Beast.) The Welsh actor had been cast back when F. Javier Gutierrez was still at the helm; Corin Hardy, who made his feature debut at Sundance in January with The Hallow, was hired by the studio back in December to take over the reins on what he has said will be an “incredibly emotional and brutal” film that goes back to the source material, Barr’s graphic novel.
Huston, who starred on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire as the disfigured war vet Richard Harrow, was reportedly in early talks last month for the lead role in the remake. Twilight fans might remember the British actor for his small part in 2010’s The Twilight Saga: Eclipse as Royce King. The 32-year-old actor, who is stems from acting royalty as a member of the Huston family (his grandfather is John Huston; his aunt is Anjelica Huston), also appeared in 2008’s Outlander and 2013’s American Hustle as Pete Musane.
Let’s see if this casting sticks and if the Crow will finally get off the ground.
