Beware! Spoilers!

Last week on The Returned 1.3 “Julie”, Simon (Mat Vairo) sweetly pretended to be the ghost Rowan (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) thought he was, but Lena (Sophie Lowe) soon dispelled that notion when she came looking for him. Tony (Aaron Douglas) gets dragged down for questioning about the attack on Lucy (Leah Gibson), but they got nothing. What he got was to exchange shovel blows to the head with his returned son Adam (Rhys Ward). Camille (India Ennenga) masquerades as a long lost cousin to come out of hiding. Julie (Sandrine Holt) gets an unpleasant visit.

The Returned 1.4 “Victor” review: We finally get a glimpse into scary Victor’s former life 29 years ago, and it’s a happy one, until it’s not. A gruesome death pushes Julie to do the responsible thing regarding Victor. Because you can’t just keep a boy you found, like a stray cat. The strangeness gets stranger in this episode. Peter’s (Jeremy Sisto) community center starts filling up. Guess who comes for shelter? I’ll tell you who isn’t there – Simon, who is acting like a mouse in Rowan’s attic. Don’t worry, Rowan. Tommy (Kevin Alejandro) is no saint either, as she will soon find out in this episode.

Lena’s back gets inexplicably worse. She ends up in the hospital and she’s blaming Camille. Jack (Mark Pellegrino) gets picked up for questioning in connection with the stabbing of Lucy. This family cannot catch a break. Come on!

Four episodes in and each moment garners more and more questions for me, like:

1. Is Victor the original returned?
2. For every returned, does one of the living have to die to maintain balance?
3. What is the significance of the symbolic scars?
4. What secrets are Peter and Tommy hiding?
5. Victor’s drawings – predictions or experiences?
6. Why are they returning?

I am a LOST loyalist, but I am aware of some of the shortcomings (I did like the ending though). Carlton Cuse and his pal Damon did leave stuff unanswered at that end and I hope he doesn’t do that with this show.

So far… good job.

The Returned airs Monday nights at 10pm on A&E.
