‘Star Wars Anthology’: Second Spinoff To Center On Boba Fett

Star Wars Boba Fett Header

When Disney announced that they would be extending the Star Wars franchise with spinoffs films that would focus solely on characters like Han Solo or Yoda. One of the top characters on the wish list was Boba Fett, who met his unfortunate demise when he fell into a Sarlacc Pit in Return of the Jedi.

Now according to a story from The Wrap, the second of many Star Wars Anthology films will be an origins story of the fan-favorite bounty hunter. More on this below.

The story broke just days after it was announced that Josh Trank was relieved of his directorial duties on the film. According to sources, Trank was let go by Disney after they got reports of his “erratic behavior” and “strange work ethic” on the set of FOX’s Fantastic Four. There were also rumors of tensions between him and producer Simon Kinberg.

While the story has yet to be confirmed, Kinberg wasn’t exactly “thrilled” at the idea of working with Trank again, which may have lead to his firing. Kinberg has been heavily involved with the new direction of Star Wars, acting as both a consultant on the core films and a producer of the spinoffs as well the animated Star Wars Rebels.

Disney has yet to confirm whether to story is true.

Boba Fett is the Mandalorian bounty hunter and son of Jango Fett, whose DNA was used as a genetic template to create the clones troopers seen in the Prequels. Boba was first introduced in the saga in The Empire Strikes Back where he helped Darth Vader capture Han Solo. He was seen again in Return of the Jedi, where Solo accidentally strikes Boba’s jet pack, sending the bounty hunter hurling into the Sarlacc Pit.

While it is rumored that the second solo film of the Anthology could be an origins story, the Wrap adds that it may be “set in a separate movie universe that is not associated with Star Wars: The Force Awakens or upcoming Episodes VIII and IX.”

These spinoffs are meant to act as an extension of the Star Wars franchise, and will focus on characters who aren’t Jedi. Gareth Edwards will direct the first Anthology film, Star Wars: Rogue One, which will center on a group of Rebels who are tasked with stealing the plans of the Death Star. Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything) is the only one confirmed to star, with Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides), Riz Ahmed (Four Lions, Nightcrawler), and Ben Mendelsohn (The Place Beyond The Pines, Netflix’s Bloodline) all in talks to appear.

Disney also has yet to announce a name for Trank’s replacement, or the official title of this second film.
