That was quick. In what was expected to be an announcement tomorrow, has come earlier, as it has been confirmed that for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Game Of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie will be playing Captain Phasma, the Chrome Stormtrooper who has been seen in leaked images and the most recent trailer. The news follows confirmation that Adam Driver is Kylo Ren, the villain who wields a red crossguard lightsaber, and Lupita Nyong’o is Maz Kanata.
Check out the photo below of Gwendoline Christie in full regalia.
According to the description, Christie will play Captain Phasma, an officer of the First Order, not the Empire. As to why the name is going to be changed, I’m sure we will get that answer when the time comes. Based on just the look of the intimidating suit alone, it seems like Phasma will be in a class of her own, and will be a force to be reckoned with.
The image comes from Vanity Fair, but @EpisodeVII – which is not affiliated with Disney or LucasFilm – posted the photo on Twitter.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens also stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, and returning alum Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels, and Kenny Baker. Directed by J.J. Abrams, the film is scheduled to open on December 18, 2015.
