Wreck-It Ralph was released way back in 2012, and was a commercial success and also earned itself an Academy Award nomination, losing out to its sister studio Pixar. Though not as popular as Frozen, the video game-centric film has grown a fanbase who have been asking for Wreck-It Ralph 2 to happen. Composer Henry Jackman said that a story was in the works. But for the most part, development, if any, has been slow going.
Lead voice star John C. Reilly was recently interviewed, and revealed that he was signed on for a sequel. More on the story below.
In an interview with the Irish Radio Program RTE Arena, radio producer Penny Heart tweeted that Reilly announced he was signed on for Wreck-It Ralph 2. Here’s the tweet:
A radio program may not be the most reliable source, but it’s not as if Reilly would lie directly either. As aforementioned, Wreck-It Ralph composer Henry Jackman said that the writers were working on a story for the sequel. Then there is the huge interest from the fans of the film and Disney itself to see a sequel happen.
Director Rich Moore had spoken about some of the ideas he would like to explore in the sequel, like visiting he worlds of online gaming and console gaming, and would like to have Nintendo characters like Mario and Link make some cameos. He had also talked about the idea of what if multiple Wreck-It Ralph machines shared the arcade. But with the gaming technology continuing to expand more and more stories will continue to grow, so the writing team will have a lot to work with. Moore would also want to bring in Disney’s Tron, which would be an extremely fun crossover for all Disney fans alike.
If there is any validity to this story, it would mean that Reilly is the only one signed on for the sequel. It’s unknown if Jack McBrayer, Sarah Silverman, and Jane Lynch are also signed on for the sequel.
