Midnight tonight, Friday, September 4, 2015, begins Force Friday, the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens toys, collectibles, and more. Ahead of this major sales event, an unboxing of the items was streamed live online today.
One of the items revealed today BB-8 by Sphero, a baseball-sized remote-control version of the rolling ball droid from the upcoming sequel. This “app-enabled Droid” is controlled by the user via an app for iOS or Android devices and has three modes: Driving, Holographic Messaging, and Patrol.
Watch the video here below of the BB-8 toy in action. Also check out the very lengthy (4 hours!) unboxing video that shows off all the items coming up for sale tonight, including BB-8 (which will run about $150), the obligatory (yet awesome) LEGO variations, HASBRO action figures, and much more.
Meet BB-8™ – the app-enabled Droid™ that’s as authentic as it is advanced. BB-8 has something unlike any other robot – an adaptive personality that changes as you play. Based on your interactions, BB-8 will show a range of expressions and even perk up when you give voice commands. Set it to patrol and watch your Droid explore autonomously, make up your own adventure and guide BB-8 yourself, or create and view holographic recordings.
It’s now possible to explore the galaxy with your own trusty Astromech Droid by your side. BB-8 is more than a toy – it’s your companion. Learn more: sphero.com/starwars.
I’m not big on collecting toys, especially since I ran out of room for stuff like that a decade ago, but I have been waiting and hoping that there would be a toy like this the minute BB-8 rolled into my heart back in November in the teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It was love at first sight!!! This is one item I need for sure.
