Crowds rushed into the Main Stage room at New York Comic-Con on Saturday, filling up the auditorium for a chance to see David Duchovny (Fox Mulder), Mitch Pileggi (Walter Skinner), and show creator Chris Carter speak about the upcoming The X-Files mini-series revival.

The panel’s moderator, Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley), came onto the stage first and announced that the audience would be treated to “the first episode of season 10,” to an eruption of cheers. “Afterwards,” Nanjiani said, “I’m going to speak with some people involved with the show “” and my goal will be not to cry. But, before the episode airs, we have a special guest on the screen who’d like to say a word.” Gillian Anderson then appeared on the screen, telling the fans to enjoy the premiere.

We’ll have a more detailed rundown of the episode shown soon!

Once the credits rolled, and the Main Stage erupted with applause, Nanjiani returned to the room and introduced the guests. As Pileggi, followed by Duchovny and Carter, walked onto the stage, and they were welcomed by a standing ovation.

Carter spoke first explaining how this mini-series became a reality. “I got this call from 20th Century Fox. They said “˜David’s interested in the show.’ And I said, “˜If David’s interested, then I am too.'”

“What’s it like playing these guys again?” Nanjiani asked.

“Just the fact that Gillian, and Mitch, and Chris were all there,” Duchovny began to answer, “it’s more instinctive at this point. You can kind of feel when Mulder’s right, or Scully is right, or Mitch is right. It’s just right.” Pillegi agreed with the simple statement, “It’s just right.”

Pileggi then talked a bit about Skinner, saying, “The character is very similar to my father who worked for the Department of Defense in the Middle East. I didn’t realize it until my brothers and sisters and mom said, ‘That’s dad.'” Continuing on the same topic, Pileggi gave credit to Carter. “He gave me a wonderful character that I could,” he took a moment, visibly choking up, “that I could do that with.”

Nanjiani asked Carter to talk about the scope of the new series, as it seems much bigger. “Early on, David said to me, “˜I think we’ve gotta come out and punch “˜em in the mouth.’ We needed to make a statement, and be bold “” we needed to show more bang.”

The relationship between Mulder and Scully was briefly addressed by Carter as well. “There’s a lot of ground to cover in very little time,” he began. “They’re not living under the same roof and we wanted to be true to the passage of time”¦Life has many bumps in the road “” I think Mulder and Scully have hit one of those.”

During the question and answer time, some asked the group what they believe. “I’m a believer,” said Pileggi. Duchovny then responded, “I’m a believer,” followed by Carter who changed it up a bit with “I want to believe.”

When asked about moments in which they felt nostalgic and how it felt being back, Duchovny spoke up. “For me it was really the first day “” the first day for me filming was that huge long speech [referring to the first episode] with Tad O’Malley (Joel McHale), and Scully and Sveta (Annet Mahendru). It was chunky, that speech. I was searching for that ‘Mulder flow.'”

A 17-year-old fan approached the mic. When he finished speaking, Pileggi addressed how awesome it is that the original fans of the show have stuck with them, but that there is a whole new generation of fans experiencing The X-Files for the first time.

After being asked a question regarding the new series and the mythology of the show, Carter explained how the new season would work. “The season starts with a mythology episode and then standalone episodes for the next four. We bookend the first and sixth about mythology.”

Someone asked if we’d see the Lone Gunmen again, to which Carter replied, “The Lone Gunmen are back.”

The final question came from Nanjiani, asking, “Are you going to do more?”

“I’m grateful to all you guys and to Chris for making it possible for us to do this again,” Duchovny said. “If it so happens that there’s an appetite for more, you have my number.”

The X-Files revival premieres on January 24, 2016 on Fox . Check out the trailers and promos for the new season here below.
