Supernatural is back and so is the Geeks of Doom coverage of this guilty pleasure! When the fall finale ended last December, we found Sam (Jared Padalecki) trapped in the cage with Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino – squee!!! I will watch him in anything!). Sam thought God (actual God, not Geeks of Doom) had been sending him visions that Lucifer was the answer to the Darkness (Emily Swallow) problem. Oh Sam. Have you learned nothing? God (or Chuck) is missing. It was Lucifer the entire time. Rowena (Ruth Connell) had been helping to loosen the cage on the sly. He wants Sam to say “Yes.” Sound familiar?

Spoilers below.

Supernatural 11.10 “The Devil in the Details” review: Lucifer takes Sam down memory lane. First, it’s a teen scene with Sam as a lanky, yet strong young man. But then we get to revisit one of the best scenes in Supernatural ever… the season 5 finale – “Swan Song.” One of my favorite episodes, Sam (with Lucifer trapped in his body) and the long lost Winchester brother Adam (with Michael at the controls), tumble into hell to save the world. I know the point is to show Sam how strong he was in the past and how he should do the correct thing for the world, but the thing is… Sam saying yes is the thing we expect him to do.

Castiel (Misha Collins) runs into a stats angel and they wander around in the dark afternoon (weird). The stats angel is adorable and in awe of the legend that is Castiel. They do run into Amara and stats angel is consumed. She was cute. i hoped she would last longer, but knew she wouldn’t.

Dean (Jensen Ackles) gets a call from Crowley (Mark Sheppard). He shows up, and then Cass does too, sent with an Amara message carved into his chest.

Crowley: “Don’t worry about Sam.”
Dean: “I’m sorry. Have you met me?”

Crowley is ready to trap Rowena to make her his slave to get Sam out of the cage, where Lucifer is wearing him down. Dean hears Sam shouting, and runs into the cage room with Cass. Lucifer grabs them right up. Luckily, Crowley makes Rowena do the spell in the nick of time. Or was it?

Nope. Too late! Castiel, in another moment of incredibly bad judgment, said yes to Lucifer. Why, Castiel, why?

And then he killed his groupie, Rowena.

Some thoughts and questions:

Although… it WAS another terrible Castiel decision, Misha Collins is kinda fun acting as Mark Pellegrino. I really hope we get to see both sides of this handsome coin.

Rowena – I loved the recurring Christmas nightmare at the beginning that sets up the entire love/hate relationship with her son. Ruth Connell is incredible. That scene was beautifully written and acted.

That being said… why does Supernatural keep killing its women?

How long do we think it will take Sam and Dean to realize Castiel is not driving the car?

I really hope the flashback means the return of Adam/Michael (Jake Abel). I always felt that three brother dynamic needed to be explored more.

Good episode. The Amara thing is not my favorite part, but anything that puts my boys, Crowley, and Lucifer in an episode is fantastic.

Supernatural airs Wednesday nights at 8pm ET on The CW.

  1. OH. MY. GOD. This episode was absolutely amazing and I actually
screamed a few times! I don’t even know where to begin, but–wait, no, yes I do. Spoilers ahead. Misha absolutely KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK playing Lucifer. Like.. holy crap, he did such an amazing job, and his portrayal is spot-on. He blew my mind tonight.

The guys will save him – of course they will, because Cas is family.
In the extended preview that came out yesterday, Sam even said “Dean, we’ll get him back. We will.” So that makes me think the guys will realize what happened next episode and then work to save Cas and put Lucifer back where he came from. They will prove to Cas that what Ambriel and Amara said wasn’t true. He’s NOT expendable; he’s a hero, just like they are, and they care about him.

I knew as soon as he asked Rowena about the cage that she was a goner- which is too bad, because I actually really like Rowena, but I knew it was coming. So that leaves Crowley to probably be locked up in hell by Lucifer before he goes back to earth. I also really want to know what affected Amara after she branded Cas.. did anyone else notice that? Shewas fine, then she touched him and went woozy. I’m interested to know why.

Okay, yeah, I have a lot of feelings tonight but I am positive that
the guys will find a way out of this. Like Dean said in the promo
yesterday, they’re going to save Cas, ice the devil, and defeat the
Darkness. In that oder. And Cas will be by their side again, as he
    should be.

  2. Love Cas as Lucifer too – uncanny.
I wish Rowena didn’t die. WHo knows? Maybe someone can bring her back. They keep killing off the females.
