Last week on Gotham, Harvey and Jim (Donal Logue and Ben McKenzie) chased down the leads as to who framed Jim, and all roads led to Riddler (Cory Michael Smith). Nygma almost got the drop on him, but Jim escaped and trapped him into capture. His name was cleared. Bruce (David Mazouz) went back home after Alfred (Sean Pertwee) told him that Lucius Fox (Chris Chalk) got into his dad’s computer. Selina (Camren Bicondova) was upset. Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) found out that his dad was murdered by his wife, so he killed her children and fed them to her. He’s back!!! Barbara (Erin Richards) was released from Arkham and showed up at Jim’s door. Surprise!

Spoilers below.

Gotham 2.18 “Pinewood” review: “The person who did those things. That’s not me.” Barbara tries to convince Jim she’s sane. He kinda believes her, but still kicks her out. Harvey is shocked. Jim goes on a rampage through Gotham looking for the assassin lady, the one who sent people after him at the behest of Theo Galavan, and the one who hired Matches Malone to kill Bruce’s parents. He’s vicious – brass knuckles and the works. He gets really close, but not close enough. Barbara shows up to help him, spouting, “I knew you when…” She gets in, but you cannot keep bad Barbara Kean down. She turns on him and is totally believable. But it was a ruse and they get a nickname at least – The Philosopher. Jim just cannot forgive her and literally runs away from her, especially when Bruce calls. Barbara looks bereft. I know Jim is growly angry, but I’m not liking his Christian Bale-ish Batman voice. Barbara runs to the only person she has left in the world. Oh Jim. Why couldn’t you be a little nice?

Bruce, Lucius, and Alfred pore through the computer. They get a name and address, and Bruce is a stubborn ass throwing himself into possible danger. The house they find has claw marks down the walls. Those same claws swipe Alfred. The girl, Karen Jennings, has claws – part of an experimental bioengineering project at Pinewood Farms, owned by Wayne Enterprises. Pinewood turned the girl into a monster. Thomas Wayne stopped the whole endeavor, once he knew that monstrous things were happening. Then he cared for Karen, as a kind of substitute father. Bruce wants to go to Pinewood Farms. That does not go well. Karen is arrested. She is a dead woman, but Jim wants to bust her out. That goes even worse for her, but proves that she is not the monster they tried to make her to be.

Dr. Strange (BD Wong) is making his Frankenstein – Patient 44. He also finds out about Ms Jennings and lets Mr Freeze out to play. Whenever he and his freeze gun are around, death strikes someone. And any episode with Nathan Darrow in it is awesome. I love Meechum!

Patient 44 is finally reanimated, to the detriment of those in close proximity. Guess who? I am too excited for his return.

The dots connect a bit in the Wayne murders. Will we ever learn the truth of it in this series? Are we meant to?

I am very happy about this week’s revelations, It ties the entire season and all of last season together in a nice package, with enough mystery left to keep us coming. Although missing this week, I’m looking forward to seeing how Penguin mucks up all the situations, as he marches to his own drum. He not only reverted back to his evil self, he surpassed his usual ways.

Gotham airs Monday nights at 8:00pm ET on FOX.
