Spider-Man: Homecoming title card

If you saw Doctor Strange over the weekend, chances are the film’s score resonated with you more than any other film the MCU had to offer. That’s because Oscar-winning film composer Michael Giacchino did the score for the film. But his trip to the MCU isn’t over yet. Over the weekend, he confirmed that he would be returning for Spider-Man: Homecoming.

More on the story below.

Giacchino made it official when he announced he was on board to compose the music for Spider-Man: Homecoming on his Instagram account. He didn’t have much to say other than the self-explanatory caption “it’s true.”

It's true…

This wouldn’t be the first time that Giacchino offered his talents for a superhero movie. As aforementioned, he composed the score for Doctor Strange. But he doesn’t pigeonhole himself to one particular genre. In fact, he has been around the Disney block more than once, having composed scores for Pixar films like The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Up, Cars 2, and Inside Out. In fact, he won his first Oscar for his work in Up. This year, he made his Disney debut with Zootopia, and later this year he will make his step into the Star Wars universe with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story – for which he replaced Alexandre Desplat. Other Disney credits include the under watched John Carter, the family-friendly superhero comedy Sky High, and the cold Let Me In.

Other credits include Star Trek trilogy, Mission: Impossible III and Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, Speed Racer, Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, and Jurassic World. But perhaps he is best recognized for his Emmy-award winning work on the hit show LOST. It should be interesting to see how much of Giacchino’s influence will be felt throughout Spider-Man: Homecoming. We know for a fact that the film will have a John Hughes vibe as the webslinger attempts to navigate through high school while trying to balance it with his superhero life.

Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters on July 7, 2017.
